The 2023-24 Victorian Budget announced various land tax changes on 23 May 2023. From 1 January 2024, the tax-free threshold for general land tax rates will be reduced from $300,000 to $50,000, and the rate will increase by 0.1% of the value over $300,000. What does this mean for you? This subjects more properties and property owners to land tax. Your family home will remain exempt from land tax.

If you have any questions regarding the changes and what they might mean for you, please contact our team.

We attended the LEGAL INNOVATION & TECH FEST 2023 in Sydney! A must-attend for legal professionals who are interested in staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in legal technology and innovation, such as OpenAI and the soon-to-be-launched Microsoft CoPilot. With keynote speakers such as Nadine Champion and Ciara Lancaster, we had the opportunity to learn from and network with industry experts, as well as explore the latest legal tech products and services.

Last month, our team had the privilege of participating in the The Salvation Army Australia Community Wills Day.This event is aimed at assisting low-income individuals and families in creating their wills and ensuring their final wishes are legally documented.

At our law firm, we understand the importance of having a comprehensive estate plan, and we believe that every individual deserves access to legal services, regardless of their financial circumstances. That is why we were honored to work alongside Salvos to offer this service.

We are looking forward to the next Community Will’s Day!

Yesterday we had the privilege of attending the Australian Malaysia Business Council International Women's Day event, where we had the pleasure of listening to Captain Mona Shindy speak about her experiences as a pioneering woman in the Australian Navy.Captain Shindy shared some fascinating insights into her journey and highlighted the importance of gender diversity in leadership roles as well providing guidance on how we ourselves can become better leaders, which included steps on addressing self-biases, ingroup v outgroups and much more. It was truly inspiring to hear how she has broken barriers and paved the way for other women to follow in her footsteps.

Attending this event was a valuable opportunity for us to learn from an accomplished leader and connect with other like-minded professionals. It was also a reminder of the progress we have made in achieving gender equality, as well as the work that still needs to be done.

Thank you to the Australian Malaysia Business Council for organizing such a great event, and to Captain Shindy for sharing her story with us. Here's to celebrating the achievements of women everywhere and continuing to strive for greater diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our lives.

A caveat records on the Title a person's interest in the land, which serves as a notice to the world of that person's interest. You can lodge a caveat if you have a caveatable interest in the land. Before lodging a caveat, you should seek legal advice about whether you have a caveatable interest in land. Lodging a caveat without a valid interest can put you at risk of financial penalties.
