Courmacs were at the Conservatives Party Conference this week to speak to members of the Shadow Cabinet and senior policymakers about access to justice issues for consumers.

Our first stop was the party’s Business Day where Litigation Director, Tilal Masood, and our Director of Operations, Michelle West, had the opportunity to both listen to and question Shadow Chancellor Andrew Griffith MP directly about the party’s plans for growing a stronger economy.

Both then took part in various roundtables, speaking about the importance of consumer protection as part of the Conservative Party’s economic agenda.

This was the final party conference of the season, and we’ve now covered all the major conferences across England, Scotland, and Wales.

We’ve learnt a great deal about party policy thinking and direction of travel and are now seeing how this could feed into our work providing the best advice possible for our clients!

Courmacs were at Plaid Cymru’s party conference last week speaking to senior members of the Welsh government about a range of access to justice issues.

Our MD, Darren Smith, spoke to members of the Senedd and Plaid MPs about Courmacs' work on housing disrepair for vulnerable claimants and our law firm’s fast-growing apprenticeship programme.

He also took the opportunity to highlight how consumers in Wales could be among the biggest beneficiaries in the UK of car finance compensation payments if full and fair redress is secured.

And he had the privilege of meeting the First Minister of Wales, Rhun ap Iorwerth, and talking again with the Deputy First Minister of Scotland after spending time with Jenny Gilruth SNP at the SNP’s Business Day last month!

A day out of the office, paintbrushes at the ready and a very worthy cause! 🐾🎨

A huge well done to Courtney and Alyssa, who spent hours painting the fencing at Homeless Hounds. We’re proud to see our team getting stuck in and supporting a charity that means so much to them. 💚

At Courmacs, every colleague gets one fully paid volunteering day each year, in addition to their annual leave and birthday leave. They choose the charity, and we give them the time to lend a hand.

Charities need practical help as well as donations, and a few extra pairs of hands can make a real difference. We’re delighted to help our colleagues support the causes close to their hearts.

Thank you, Homeless Hounds, for welcoming Courtney and Alyssa and for all the incredible work you do for dogs in need. This round of a-paws is for you too! 👏🐶

Courmacs were at Labour’s party conference last week to speak to the government’s most senior policy makers about how mis-selling affects everyday people across the country.

Our first stop was the The Labour Party party’s Business Day where our MD Darren Smith heard directly from the Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Chancellor John Healey about how ‘good growth in every postcode’ was key to people’s prosperity.

Darren attended a Mayors' roundtable where he took the opportunity to raise the issue of consumer protection as part of the good growth agenda.

Our Litigation Director Tilal Masood also had great conversations with various party representatives about their work advising car finance victims seeking fair compensation.

We were delighted to attend the Liberal Democrats Business Day at their Autumn Conference in Brighton, where the party's Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper launched their plan to Get Britain Growing Again.

Our MD Darren Smith and Legal Consultant Natasha Banjo took the opportunity to raise the issue of consumer protection as part of this driving growth agenda.

They also had great conversations with senior party policy makers including Bobby Dean MP about the impact of car finance mis-selling in constituencies across the country, and how it has affected hard-working people.

Second stop of our Autumn Party Conference season, Scottish National Party (SNP) Business Day in Edinburgh, where our MD Darren Smith represented Courmacs Legal and continued our cross-party engagement on car finance mis-selling.

Darren spoke with the Scottish Government’s First Minister John Swinney, Deputy First Minister Jenny Gilruth SNP and MSPs, including the Minister for Public Finance Hannah Mary Goodlad for Shetland, about the impact on consumers — including the 2,500 car finance claims Courmacs Legal is handling in Shetland and Orkney.

Today we say goodbye to our colleague Hermione, who recently died at the age of 20 due to a rare condition called SJS/TEN.

Hermione joined Courmacs Legal at just 16. She was driven far beyond her years, she always had time for everyone, and she brightened every room she walked into with her beautiful hair, smile and positivity. Losing her has been deeply felt by every one of us, and our thoughts are with her close friends and family.

Our phone lines will be closed today, Tuesday 11 August, so our team can attend her funeral and pay their respects. We will reopen the lines on Wednesday.

In place of flowers, Hermione's family are raising awareness of SJS/TEN, a rare and serious condition she faced.

We're taking on our biggest challenge yet... 👟❤️

This July, 60 colleagues, friends, family members and supporters of Courmacs Legal will be walking 30 miles from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester all the way back to our offices in Blackburn.

We're doing it for a very special reason.

Earlier this year, a much-loved member of our team was diagnosed with cancer at just 20 years old. She's been part of the Courmacs family since she was 16, and throughout her treatment journey, The Christie has provided incredible care and support.

Now we want to give something back.

Every penny raised will go directly to The Christie to help them continue supporting patients and families when they need it most.
