Today we say goodbye to our colleague Hermione, who recently died at the age of 20 due to a rare condition called SJS/TEN.

Hermione joined Courmacs Legal at just 16. She was driven far beyond her years, she always had time for everyone, and she brightened every room she walked into with her beautiful hair, smile and positivity. Losing her has been deeply felt by every one of us, and our thoughts are with her close friends and family.

Our phone lines will be closed today, Tuesday 11 August, so our team can attend her funeral and pay their respects. We will reopen the lines on Wednesday.

In place of flowers, Hermione's family are raising awareness of SJS/TEN, a rare and serious condition she faced.

We're taking on our biggest challenge yet... 👟❤️

This July, 60 colleagues, friends, family members and supporters of Courmacs Legal will be walking 30 miles from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester all the way back to our offices in Blackburn.

We're doing it for a very special reason.

Earlier this year, a much-loved member of our team was diagnosed with cancer at just 20 years old. She's been part of the Courmacs family since she was 16, and throughout her treatment journey, The Christie has provided incredible care and support.

Now we want to give something back.

Every penny raised will go directly to The Christie to help them continue supporting patients and families when they need it most.

On Friday 29th May, a team of 8 from Courmacs took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks ⛰️ and absolutely smashed it.

Candace, Emma, Jacob, Margaret, Margarida, Owen, Paul and Ryan - we are so proud of every single one of you!

Every penny goes directly to The Christie, one of Europe's largest cancer centres, supporting thousands of patients and families every year.

⏰ Did you know there's a legal deadline to make a claim, and the clock is already ticking whether you know it or not?

It's called a limitation period, and once it expires, your right to claim is gone for good, no matter how strong your case.

Here's a quick overview 👇

✅ Contract claims: 6 years from the breach
✅ Personal injury: 3 years from the injury or date of knowledge
✅ Housing disrepair (social tenants): 6 years from first reporting to your landlord in writing
✅ Mis-sold car finance: 6 years from the date of the agreement (FCA scheme rules also apply)

The clock doesn't stop because you're waiting, hoping, or haven't got round to it yet.

Today is International Workers' Day

A day built on the simple idea that ordinary people deserve to be treated fairly, and that no one should have to accept being taken advantage of.

No one should have to live with mould, damp, or unsafe conditions in their own home. And no one should have to fight a landlord alone to get the repairs they're entitled to.

Yesterday our car finance consumer challenge landed coverage in every one of the top 10 UK news websites:
Guardian | BBC | Telegraph | Mail | Mirror | Sun | Sky | Independent | City AM | GB News | Plus MSE | Law Society Gazette | AM Online | Sharecast | PA syndication feeding Yahoo and the local press.

Millions of drivers were sold car finance without being told their interest rate had been inflated to pay the dealer a commission. They couldn't compare. They couldn't push back. For many, it cost thousands.

Yesterday was a good day for awareness. The real test is what happens next.

Last week, our client Michael Waller spoke to the BBC about his car finance claim. 🗞️

Michael bought two cars on finance over a decade ago for his job as a salesman, driving tens of thousands of miles across the country. Years later he realised he had been hoodwinked on both agreements but had no paperwork and no idea where to start.

He came to Courmacs Legal. We took it from there.
