Yesterday evening, Tenet’s founder, Arun Chauhan appeared on BBC Panorama discussing a troubling case where young people are allegedly being financially groomed by a religious charity.
The case stated that the young people were groomed in order to take out loans so the religious charity could gain these funds. This was clear false representation, as the young people weren’t aware of what the loan was truly for.
Many of the young people that had allegedly fallen victim felt as if they were at fault, which was particularly upsetting to see.
The alleged fraudsters were in a position of trust, so the victims should not feel as if they were to blame.
Young people may not have much money, but their credit score can be taken advantage of in cases like this – unbeknown to them.
These cases show a clear need for education about financial risk and fraud for young adults and children, particularly in their later years in school.
