⚖️ A difficult week in Court and a reminder that the legal system can be extremely unfair.
I supported a truly incredible lady at a two-day financial relief final hearing. ❤️ This lady is a domestic abuse survivor and lives with multiple health conditions, both physical and mental.
For two years, she had dealt with everything herself because she couldn't afford legal representation. She completed court forms alone, tried to understand complicated procedures alone and navigated a system that even lawyers spend years learning. 😔
By the time I became involved, all I could do was work with her to prepare for the final hearing. Frustratingly, much of the case focused on mistakes made in paperwork she had completed years earlier without any legal guidance.
💭 Think about that for a moment.
Someone who couldn't afford legal help was criticised for not completing legal documents correctly.
Someone with health conditions and dyslexia was judged on paperwork prepared without support.
⚠️ If there is one message I want people to take away from this, it is this:
If you cannot afford a Solicitor from the beginning, please get somebody knowledgeable to at least look through your paperwork before it is filed with the Court.
Again, this is another reason that I have set up The Law Navigator.
The legal system is supposed to provide equal access to justice, but the reality is that those who can afford professional help often start with a significant advantage. 💔
Please don't struggle alone if you don't have to. Ask questions. Seek guidance. Get support.
Because once something is filed with the Court, it can follow you throughout the entire case. 📄⚖️
