In light of yesterday’s publication of the report into Mother and Baby Homes and Magdalene Laundries in Northern Ireland, 1922-1990 McAteer & Co support the demand for a full public inquiry into the shameful and systematic abuse of women and girls in these institutions.

Many of the survivors from mother and baby homes were left behind by the HIA Inquiry so it is critical for The NI Executive to deliver the accountability, justice, and redress that these women and their children deserve as soon as possible.

We are pleased to announce that our first group of applications to the Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board have been submitted. 👍

We ask for any clients who are eligible to make an application to the Redress Board to please pass on the required documentation to us if they have not already done so.

Re: Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board

We can advise that the Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board will launch their online application portal this week.
Our office attended a meeting on 20th March 2020 to receive further information on this and to assess the efficiency of their online applications.

We were satisfied with the proposed application process and we were given reassurance that the situation with COVID-19 should not cause too much disruption to the Panel reviewing applications over the next few months. However, we are mindful that this situation is under constant review and the interferences COVID-19 is having on a broader scale, so we will of course, keep our clients informed if this has any effect on Redress Board applications.

Please note that our physical office is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, but will still be available via phone or email. We would therefore ask in the meantime that any of our clients who are eligible to make an application to the Redress Board to email:
