If you have been putting off doing your will - now is the time! I make home visits if you live in or within 20 miles of Bath, otherwise we can discuss on the phone. I take your instructions from the comfort of your sofa then email you draft wills to review. I visit a second time with all the paperwork to ensure the wills are properly executed. One will £210 for a couple £250. I also do Lasting Powers of Attorney on the same basis.

This week ten years ago I started Bath Wills, so I am very grateful and humbled that ten years later I am still here and lucky enough to be running a thriving small business. I have met so many inspirational and incredible people over the years often showing such grace and calmness in the face of death. It is a privelege to frequently be the last person a client deals with outside medical staff and family, and I take that responsibility very seriously.

Good piece on how writing a will made the author feel like a proper grown up! Get in touch to tick this one off the to do list - zoom appointments and social distanced will executions possible.

Even more than folding fitted sheets or bleeding the radiators, making a will feels like the most grown-up of tasks, writes Guardian columnist Emma Beddington

Get in touch if you need to put a will or lasting power of attorney in place - there is enough to worry about at the moment without "not having a will or lasting power of attorney" being added to the list. Although the government are putting in place legislation to enable wills to be executed remotely, I have developed a Covid secure way of getting wills executed in the conventional (and less legally risky) way.

I have adjusted to the "new normal" by taking instructions from clients remotely and providing support to ensure your wills are properly executed in front of 2 witnesses whilst maintaining social distancing. I cannot help every client but if capacity is not an issue it is still possible to put your wills in place at the moment.

Still working in lockdown 3 so do get in touch if you would like to make or update your will or if you need to put your lasting powers of attorney in place. Friendly, individual and responsive service from a former solicitor who has been helping Bathonians with their wills for 8 years now.

Deciding when to put lasting powers of attorney in place is difficult. Once your children are over 18 it is a "no brainer" and there is no advantage in waiting and not having lasting powers of attorney, but if your children are under 18 it is very understandable to want to wait to do your LPAs until they are old enough to appoint as your attorneys. Most people only want to have to do these once. However this does run the risk of temporary illness in mid life, leaving the other spouse struggling to deal with third parties, as Kate Garraway has found.

People often ask about organ donation - its not really something to put in your will as it is usually too late by the time the will is found and read. I always suggest clients sign up to the organ donation register online, but although 80% of adults would consent to donate, only 40% have actually got around to registering so this is a welcome change in the law.

‘Max and Keira’s law’ will presume consent for deceased unless family intervenes

At home with some time to think? A good opportunity to get your will and/or lasting powers of attorney in place. I have been holding zoom/whatsapp facetime appointments with clients then give remote support to ensure documents are properly executed, checked and stored. The process is as safe and straightforward as it can be. If you want to update your will or ensure arrangements are made for young children, get in touch. Lucy DM/0770 323 0154 / [email protected]

With fear about coronavirus gripping the country, demand for wills is soaring. Law firms say they are seeing jumps in requests ranging between 30 and 70% compared with normal business.

Our Story

If you have been putting off doing your will or lasting power of attorney - now is the time! Bath Wills is me, Lucy Langley. I grew up near Bath but worked in the City as a solicitor for 7 years before moving back here in 2008 to focus on family. I have been working as an independent will-writer in Bath for 5 years now, making home visits, evening appointments are available, enabling Bathonians to manage their affairs from their sofas. One will costs £150, for a couple £180, free will storage. I am too small for VAT. I also do Lasting Powers of Attorney on the same basis, £300 for two LPAs or £450 if a couple do all 4.
