🧁MKB Bake Off 2026🧁

We recently held our MKB Bake Off, which was a great success! Our staff showcased an incredible selection of delicious homemade treats, making it a fun-filled event for everyone involved.

We had two winners, Lisa Vu for her delicious BBQ Pork Buns and Kirsty Kingswood for her beautiful Chocolate Cake. Well Done to both of you! 👏👏

Thanks to everyone’s generosity and support, we raised a total of £158.00 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. This will be added to the other funds we are raising throughout the year for this wonderful charity.

A huge thank you to everyone who baked, donated, and took part!

🔹How to ensure your estate is distributed according to your wishes - Not the rules of Intestacy🔹

Many people assume that their estate will automatically pass to their loved ones when they die. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. If you die without a valid Will in England and Wales, your estate will be distributed in accordance with the Rules of Intestacy, and the outcome may not reflect your wishes or intentions.

Under intestacy rules, unmarried partners are not automatically entitled to inherit, regardless of the length of the relationship. Stepchildren are also not entitled to inherit unless formally adopted. As a result, estates may pass to relatives you did not intend to benefit, potentially leading to disputes, delays, and unnecessary legal costs at an already difficult time for those left behind.

A professionally prepared Will ensures that your loved ones are protected and that you decide who inherits your estate. Under the terms of your Will, you have full control over how your home, savings, and personal possessions are distributed.

In addition, making a Will provides an opportunity to consider inheritance tax planning, helping to ensure your estate is managed in the most efficient way possible for your beneficiaries.

Do not leave important decisions to the law. Make a Will and ensure your wishes are clearly documented and legally respected.

🔹HM Revenue & Customs Trust Registration Service 🔹

Many trustees are unaware of rules brought into place by HM Revenue and Customs which require most trusts to be registered with the Trust Registration Service. This includes both trusts created now and also ongoing trusts created in the past.

Therefore, many trusts which have been in existence for a long time now need to be registered. Many trustees incorrectly believe that an existing trust which is not taxable does not need to be registered however in most instances this is incorrect.

The trustees are required to provide HM Revenue & Customs with certain information about:

• The trustees
• The settlor of the trust
• The beneficiaries of the trust
• The assets held in the trust

It is a trustee’s legal responsibility to register a trust and if a trust is not registered, HM Revenue & Customs have the discretion to charge penalties. Also, trustees may have difficulties in dealing with a trust in the future, either when changes need to be made to the trust such as a change of trustee or a change in the assets in the trust. If a trust is not registered it is also likely that there will be delays and unnecessary complications when a trust comes to an end.

Our private client team would be happy to provide assistance with the registration of a trust with the Trust Registration Service. If you require such assistance, please contact our private client department on 01226 210000.

🥾MKB Walk for Bluebell Wood🥾

On 18th July 2026, a team from MKB Solicitors will take on a 50km walk across the Peak District and South Yorkshire to raise funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

The route will include Mam Tor, the Great Ridge and Back Tor, across the Peak District, through Sheffield and into North Anston, covering a long and often demanding stretch of terrain. The team is aiming to complete the full distance in under 12 hours, making it a tough but focused effort that will test both stamina and teamwork.

The finish line will be set at Bluebell Wood to mark MKB’s commitment to its charitable cause.

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice plays a crucial role in the local community, offering specialist medical care, respite services, and emotional support to families facing incredibly difficult circumstances. The funds raised through this challenge will help ensure that the Hospice can continue delivering its essential services, making a real difference to the lives of those who need it most.

For MKB Solicitors, this is a chance to give back and support families facing extremely difficult circumstances. Any support—through donations, sharing the campaign, or words of encouragement—will make a real difference. We would be hugely grateful for any support and donations can be given by clicking the link below.
