💚 More Than Care — Meaningful Days, Real Connections & Positive Outcomes 💚
At The Old Courthouse Day Centre, we believe care should be about much more than simply meeting someone’s basic needs.
It should be about Living well, feeling valued, staying connected and having something to look forward to.
For many older people and adults with care and support needs, attending a day centre can have an incredibly positive impact on their well-being, confidence and quality of life.
🌟 What are some of the positive outcomes we see?
💚 Reduced loneliness and social isolation
💚 New friendships and meaningful relationships
💚 Improved confidence and self-esteem
💚 Greater independence and choice
💚 Regular routine and structure
💚 Mental stimulation and cognitive engagement
💚 Increased physical activity and movement
💚 Opportunities to learn, create, laugh and try new things
💚 A sense of purpose and belonging
💚 Improved mood and emotional wellbeing
💚 Support to remain living independently at home for longer
💚 Valuable respite and reassurance for families and carers
Our members don't simply come to us to be “looked after”.
They come to socialise, laugh, join in, make friends, enjoy activities, eat together and be part of a community.
🏡 How is day care different from care at home?
Domiciliary care is extremely important for people who need support with things such as washing, dressing, medication and meals at home.
However, visits can sometimes be relatively short and focused mainly on completing essential care tasks.
A day at The Old Courthouse provides something different.
People spend the day surrounded by others, taking part in activities, enjoying conversation, having meals together and receiving support from a familiar team who get to know them as individuals.
Instead of somebody spending much of the day alone between care visits, day care can provide hours of companionship, stimulation and meaningful engagement.
🏠 And what about residential care?
For some people, a care home is absolutely the right choice when they require continuous support.
But many people want to remain living in their own home for as long as possible.
Day services can help make this achievable.
By providing regular support during the week, meaningful activity and valuable respite for family carers, day care can form an important part of helping somebody remain safely and happily at home for longer.
💚 The best of both worlds
Our members can continue living in their own homes, sleeping in their own beds and remaining part of their family life — while also having somewhere they belong during the day.
At The Old Courthouse, a typical day might include:
🎵 Music and singing
🎨 Arts and crafts
🧠 Games and cognitive activities
🌱 Gardening
🍰 Baking
🪑 Gentle and chair-based exercise
☕ Coffee, conversation and reminiscence
🎬 Film afternoons
🍽️ Freshly prepared meals
😂 And plenty of laughter!
Families regularly tell us that attending the centre gives their loved one something to look forward to, while also giving them reassurance and much-needed time to rest, work or manage other responsibilities.
That is why we are so passionate about the role good-quality day services can play in our community.
We don't just provide care.
We create meaningful days.
We build friendships.
We support independence.
We give families reassurance.
And most importantly, we help people continue enjoying life. 💚
