WHAT WOULD YOU CARRY FORWARD INTO THE BANGOR OF TOMORROW?
When Patricia Neill invited us to explore her remarkable collection of old Bangor postcards and photographs, it was difficult to know where to begin.
These wonderful images take us along Bangor’s seafront - from Queen’s Parade and Marine Gardens towards Pickie.
They reveal a Bangor of elegant buildings, gardens, promenades, bathing places, regattas and busy days beside the water. Some views remain familiar. Others belong to a Bangor that has almost entirely disappeared.
With the seafront changing once again, perhaps these images are especially worth looking at now.
Not because the past can - or should - be recreated exactly as it was, but because it might still offer a little inspiration for what comes next.
The architecture, the planting, the activity and Bangor’s relationship with the sea are all part of its character. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if something of that distinctive spirit could be carried into its future?
