Merry Christmas everybody! Santa has now finished his rounds and is treating himself to a lakeside beer šŸ»šŸŽ…

As the year draws to a close, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me in 2025, the year I took the leap and launched Summit HR.

From clients who trusted me early on, to fellow small business owners who offered advice, encouragement, referrals, laughs, coffees and reality checks when needed, I genuinely could not have asked for a better community around me.

Here’s to a little rest, a bit of reflection, and an even bigger 2026 šŸ’ŖšŸ’Ŗ but for today at least, Santa’s off to put his feet up šŸŽ„šŸ˜‰

Dear Sir Keir Starmer,

If you ever fancy a chat about performance management, my door is very much open.

I appreciate it can be tricky when someone in your team is… how do I put this professionally… underperforming so spectacularly that even the spreadsheets are crying.

And look, we have all had that one team member who insists they are ā€œon top of everythingā€ while simultaneously setting the country on fire with each new announcement šŸ‘€šŸ”„

The hardest part is always starting the performance discussion, but do not worry… I specialise in this kind of thing, and can support the conversation, structure the plan, manage the follow up and in your case, will try my best to keep a straight face while doing it.

And because I know your budget is a little tight after recent financial revelations (well, everyone’s budget is to be fair), I will even do your first consultation for free… these things can be taxing enough right!?

So if you need a quiet word Prime Minister, just let me know. And if we finish early, we can always spend a little time updating your CV. No reason…. Its just good to be prepared given the current job market and the rising levels of unemployment, right!? šŸ™„

Another brilliant Wise Up Wednesday this morning hosted by the one and only Dave Christie from Cheshire Business Coaching

Today’s focus was all about habits in business… both the productive ones we want to build and those sneaky ones we fall into that might not be doing us or our businesses any favours. I think it’s safe to say that every single one of these sessions makes me pause and reflect on ā€œIs this helping me grow, or just keeping me busy?ā€ šŸ‘€

Another bonus this week that I thought was good… We also talked about the difference between growing your number of connections and deepening the relationships you already have. It’s great to grow your network, but there’s real power in building stronger, more meaningful relationships with a few people who genuinely get what you do and want to help you succeed (and vice versa). So here’s to more of that!

Trig or treat!? šŸ‘€ Happy Friday guys and ghouls šŸ‘»! As the coffee shops get a little too spooky this time of year, we decided to take our 1-2-1 to the trails instead!

Had a fang-tastic (šŸ‘€) Halloween-themed networking walk today with the always spook-tacular Dave Christie. Dave really seemed to love the props I brought along and made him model 🄓🤣.

See, networking doesn’t have to be scary! We swapped caffeine for fresh air, talked about business, ideas, family and hobbies, and just generally enjoyed the glorious autumn air. What a great way of getting to know one another a bit better ā˜ŗļø and despite my questionable navigational memory, we actually survived and came away feeling… well, alive šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Such a great day!!!! This morning, I had the absolute pleasure of hosting the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry final friday event along with Daniel Matthias Architecture And wow what a turnout… nearly 60 people showed up! We learnt all about DMA and how they bring people’s dream houses to life, and I got to talk about some Summit HR (Consultancy Services), some juicy HR stories and some quick tips that businesses can use to keep teams motivated and swimming in the same direction! If anyone needs IT consultancy, give me a shout! Joking… let me near your systems and there’s a reasonable chance your company will mysteriously cease to exist 🄓

Had a great conversation over coffee with a new client yesterday, and it’s one I’ve been hearing surprisingly often lately.

They’d been with one of the big-name providers for a couple of years. On paper, it seemed cost-effective at first. But in reality… well sadly they felt like just another number; slow response times, black-and-white advice, and no real sense that anyone understood their business, or what they were trying to achieve.

Now, don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a dig at the big advisory firms. I used to work in one, and they can do a good job… to a point.

But what they often don’t provide is a true partnership… Someone who takes the time to get to know you. Someone who picks up the phone and gives straight answers on the spot. Not someone who is driven by KPIs that pressure them to move on to the next call (trust me… I remember!).

Well that’s not me… I offer advice that aligns with YOUR goals, not just the law. I thrive on delivering outcomes safely, efficiently, and always with the bigger picture in mind.

I’m in it WITH you, not just advising from the sidelines, because HR support should feel like a partnership, not a call centre šŸ’Ŗ

What a brilliant day out with G&M Engineering Associates. I was kindly invited to join their team-building day, which involved clay pigeon shooting in one of the most scenic spots you could ask at Cloudside Shooting & Sporting ClubšŸ˜

Hugely grateful to the G&M team for inviting me to share the experience with them, they were absolutely fantastic company! Congrats to Ben on taking first place (though I’m still claiming a solid second… especially considering his family actually hosts clay shooting events. No pressure like šŸ™„šŸ˜…).

Great to be outdoors, having a laugh, and blasting away the usual ideas of what a team day looks like (there wasn’t a raft build in any of our sights… we really aimed high with this one šŸ‘€) – definitely a day to remember… and I have a bruise on my cheek to remind me 🄓

a) physically demonstrating the impact of the tools I was about to introduce, and how they can transform the way we manage people…
OR
b) describing the wingspan of a vulture… šŸ¤”
Both are entirely plausible, to be honest šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

A fantastic morning spent delivering People Management training to a truly brilliant group of leaders at G&M Engineering Associates.

It was a hugely interactive session that received 5 ā­ļø feedback across the board! By the end of the training, attendees were saying how confident they now feel in applying practical people practices to genuinely help build a positive culture, and attract and retain the best talent.

It’s exactly this kind of feedback I love to hear, and knowing the value this will bring to each of them in their roles is why I’m so passionate about HR and why I do what I do!
