Think mediation means sitting across a table from your ex and having to agree face-to-face?

At BH&O, we offer remote mediation, where you can join from separate locations, and shuttle mediation, where the mediator moves between separate rooms so you and your former partner don’t have to have direct contact.

The aim is to create a process that works for your circumstances and keeps everyone safe, helping you work towards practical agreements while keeping communication as constructive as possible.

Sarah is an international development professional specialising in children’s rights, child protection and safeguarding. She has over 20 years' experience working on initiatives in various countries, strengthening capacity and systems to address violence against children in the home and at school.

After some work experience with BH&O, Sarah has decided to pivot her career into the family law sector, joining us as a Consultant Case Worker.

When a relationship ends, it can be tempting to focus on the immediate practicalities, where you’ll live, what happens to the family home, and how you’ll manage day-to-day costs.

But divorce finances can be more complex than they first appear.

Pensions, savings, investments, businesses and debts may all need to be considered when reaching a financial settlement. And even if you and your former partner have agreed between yourselves how to divide things, it’s important to understand the legal implications of that agreement.

Separated with children? It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas.

So, what should you think about?

Who has the children on Christmas Day? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, some families alternate, while others split the day and some even spend it together.

When should you agree arrangements? As early as possible, especially if either parent is planning to travel.

What about presents and traditions? Try to respect each other’s traditions and coordinate where you can.

What if you can’t agree? Start with a calm conversation. If that doesn’t work, mediation can help you find a practical arrangement.

Most importantly, keep the children out of the conflict and focus on creating a positive Christmas across both homes.

We're so excited to announce that we will be running a parenting programme from January till March 2027!

The course is accredited by The Centre for Emotional Health and is 10 weeks long. We hope to run each weekly session on a Monday morning.

🎉It's Kinship Care Week, a national week of awareness, recognition, and celebration of kinship families across England and Wales.

Kinship carers are grandparents, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, other relatives or friends, who step in to raise children who cannot live at home.

We want everyone to understand who and what a kinship carer is – and to celebrate the wonderful contribution they make for children around the world.

This year we are also highlighting landmark changes in new legislation which should make it easier for kinship families to get the support they need.
