The Scottish Criminal Bar Association is saddened to hear of the death of Lord McCluskey, a member of the Faculty of Advocates, a Law Officer and a Senator. Our thoughts are with his family.

The SCBA is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Keith Bovey.

The Dean of Faculty, Gordon Jackson QC said
"I've known Keith since I started in law. Always encouraging to those starting out. A giant in both law and politics. More importantly an exceptionally nice man. His passing feels like the end of an era. Simply irreplaceable."

Former SCBA President and also former President of the Glasgow Bar Association , Thomas Ross
said " One of the greatest people that I've had the privilege of meeting in my legal career. Keith was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the Glasgow Bar Association - formed because he thought that the interests of court lawyers in general - and Glasgow ones in particular - were being ignored by the 'establishment' in Edinburgh. He was a rebel - who never stopped rebelling - but always in a charming, intelligent and persuasive way. Ironically last night was the annual dinner of the ex-presidents of the GBA - and the first one that Keith missed for many a year - and the highlight for us all was just letting Keith talk - the 50's the 60's the old sheriffs - absolute gold. We miss you already Keith - we shall never look upon your like again"

Our thoughts are with Keith's family at this time

Excellent hospitality from the Aberdeen Bar at the Annual Dinner where there was a good turn out from Faculty of Advocates and the SCBA . Our Vice President Tony Lenehan and Stuart McBride, Author, gave the post dinner speeches, both of which were very funny and very well received.

The Scottish Criminal Bar is deeply saddened to hear of the death of our good friend and colleague Dougie Gray, who worked in the gownroom at the High Court in Glasgow.

Victoria Young took these lovely photos of him recently, and she put it well when she said "with a pithy quip he could put cocky junior counsel in their place and the occasional QC too. One of a kind. Will be sorely missed" .

We send our deepest sympathies to Dougie's family and friends.

The Scottish Criminal Bar is proud to be one of the sponsors of the Tumbling Lassie Ball - an event which raises awareness of modern slavery (human trafficking) in our society.

In January 1687, during the reign of James VII and II, the little-known case of Reid v Scot of Harden (Mor. 9505) was decided in the Court of Session in Edinburgh. It was about a little girl, a “ tumbling lassie” or stage gymnast, who had fled from her manager (Mr Reid) because she was being physica...
