The Aberdeen Law Project

The Aberdeen Law Project As a student-led project, we operate to provide legal assistance and representation, educational and community outreach programmes.

Casus Omissus, or the ‘The Aberdeen Law Project’ as we are publicly known, is the first purely student-led law clinic in Scotland. Our clinic, primarily exists in order to provide legal representation and educational programs to members of the public who would otherwise not have access to such assistance. The aim of the Project is thus threefold; to secure access to justice for the economically de

prived; to provide students with practical experience under the supervision of practitioners; and to increase opportunity by undertaking educational outreach projects. As the name Casus Omissus suggests, the clinic will only provide assistance where there is no other recourse available.

In March, teams from our Workshops Sector visited St Machar Academy to deliver Mock Trial Workshops to S4 and S5 students studying Modern Studies.

They learnt about the process a case takes to reach trial, the roles of people in the court and participated in a roleplay about a case in a criminal court.

Read the testimonies from St Machar Academy's teachers below:

Well done to the Workshops Sector for all their hard work!

We’re pleased to share that our May Foodbank Appeal, part of the Aberdeen Law Project’s Foodbank Initiative, has been successfully wrapped up.

We would like to extend our appreciation to donors of the food parcels and the efforts of our foodbank partners - Cfine and Aberdeen South Foodbank - who help to organise and deliver items from the foodbank to the local community.

Participating in your local foodbanks is vital in order to feed many families and individuals in the local community. Since 2018, demand for food parcels in Aberdeenshire has risen sharply. (Grampian Online - https://www.grampianonline.co.uk/news/food-parcel-need-continues-to-soar-in-aberdeenshire-and-abe-332182/).

Our Foodbank Initiative presents The Aberdeen Law Project with the opportunity to respond to the growing pressures on our local foodbanks by collecting donations and working closely with Cfine and Aberdeen South Foodbank. Their efforts help to ensure that the essential food parcels reach those who need them most.

While this appeal has ended, many foodbanks operate all year long, and we would encourage you to make a donation where possible. If you would like to make a donation to your local foodbank, please get in contact with them for further information!

Our next donation appeal will take place in December, so keep an eye out for this closer to the time.
