24 years after (April 23, 2000) the international hostage-taking in Sipadan (Malaysia - Borneo) where my clients were kidnapped and taken by the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf (affiliated with Bin Laden) to the neighboring island of Jolo (Philippines - Sulu) where they remained in captivity for several months in appalling conditions, the Philippine justice (regional Court of Taguig) has just sentenced the identified criminals who are still alive to heavy sentences (life imprisonment).
If my clients were properly compensated for all the damages they suffered by the French justice system (January 2009), I regret that they were unable to testify during the trial opened in the Philippines, due to not having been informed of this criminal trial... It is true that the whole truth was not necessarily good to hear, particularly regarding the unresonable use of the Philippin's army - acting under the authority of former President Estrada) without consideration of the high risks incurred by all the hostages, despite the New York Convention of December 17, 1979...

Anyway, better late than never !

Je n'ai jamais vraiment aimé les Assises, sauf le jour où, dans les années 90, j'y ai plaidé contre lui. Il était en défense comme souvent, excellent comme toujours, et moi en partie civile m'emparant de l'accusation car la cause le justifiait... Il m'a épuisé et je me souviens encore de ses mots après le verdict pour féliciter le jeune avocat que j'étais alors que son client, tout juste libéré, repartait en prison pour quelques années...
