In Spain, the Non-Resident Income Tax (IRNR) is declared using Modelo 210 and applies to individuals who spend fewer than 183 days a year in the country but own property or earn income in Spain.

Even if you own a property here for personal use, and don’t rent it out, you are taxed on what they call “imputed income”.

Tax declarations must be submitted by the 31st of December 2026. Please contact My Lawyer in Spain if you need support with filing your tax returns.

Since the Brexit referendum, we’ve been growing our residency department in response to the huge demand from non-EU citizens to live in Spain. Over the last 10 years we’ve been supporting thousands of clients through the withdrawal agreement process and formalizing their residency, getting their TIE cards, Non-Lucrative and Digital Nomad visas, which continue to be very popular.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗘𝗨 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 - 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄

If you wish to spend more than 90 days in a 180-day rolling period in Spain and you have no intention of working, then the Non-Lucrative Visa is the visa for you. Here’s what you need to obtain the NLV -

• A Spanish address - this can be a temporary address, rental property or owned
• Residence address in your home country
• Public or Private medical insurance
• Medical certificate
• Clean Criminal Certificate
• If married and applying with your spouse, duplicate marriage certificate
• For dependent children, duplicate birth certificate
• Financial resources. The minimum amount for the non-lucrative visa is €2,400 per month or savings totalling €28,800 for 1 year. For a spouse or dependent child monthly amount of €600 or yearly €7,200

These are minimum amounts and can be a combination of income from pensions, rental income and savings, but not salary as you are not permitted to engage in any form of work activity with this visa, including working online or remotely.
