USEFUL TIPS FOR VISA APPLICANTS
As a sworn EN-ES translator specialising in visa documentation, I am aware that the Spanish authorities do not make it easy, and in many cases there is a great deal of uncertainty as to what documentation is required. If you have the financial resources, I would strongly recommend using a small company to handle the whole process for you. Please read on to learn more about this.
If you decide to undertake this process independently, it is essential to carefully review the consulate's list of requirements. Should any aspects remain unclear, it is advisable to contact your consulate directly rather than seeking guidance on social media platforms. I would like to emphasise this point. While individuals on social media may share their personal experiences, it is important to note that, while in an ideal scenario this should not be necessary, the reality is that each consulate may request a different set of documents. For instance, a consulate in Manchester might not request bank statements at all, while one in San Francisco might ask for 12 months of translated statements, one in Houston might require only three months of statements, and one in Miami might ask for six months of bank statements, with no requirement for translation.
A similar issue arises with apostilles. While bi-/trilingual apostilles are not required to be translated in theory, over these past few years numerous clients have returned to request translation due to the requirement of their consulate.
As you can see, each consulate, and sometimes even each official within a consulate, will ask you for different documents. This is why I would recommend working with small companies that specialise in this sector and are familiar with the requirements of the consulates. One of the major advantages of doing so is that you will be dealing with one person rather than several.
This is also the case for translation services. Working with a dedicated independent translator is more efficient, as they can provide prompt responses to emails, offer cost-saving advice and provide other useful insights. This approach avoids the inefficiency of multiple parties involved in the process, which can lead to delays and inconsistencies in the final product.
