When purchasing a property in Spain, buyers are required to pay VAT (IVA) if they buy a new-build property, or Property Transfer Tax (ITP) if they purchase a resale property.

From 1 June 2026, the Property Transfer Tax in the Valencian Community will decrease from 10% to 9%. This reduction applies to resale properties valued at up to €1 million. However, if the property value exceeds this amount, the applicable ITP rate will be 11%.

In addition, depending on the buyer’s specific circumstances, further tax reductions or allowances may be available.
