about studying in Spain, here’s what you actually need to know before you start the process.
First, your course has to be recognised. Not all schools qualify, and if it’s not listed on RUCT (Registro de Universidades, Centros y Títulos), your visa can be refused — even if you’ve already paid.
Most people enter Spain on a tourist visa (or visa-free). From the day you arrive, you need to apply for your student visa while you’re still legally in the country. Leave it too late and you risk having to start again from your home country.
Timing really matters. Applications can take weeks or even a few months, so don’t leave things until the last minute.
Also, not every country has a Spanish embassy or consulate. If yours doesn’t, you may have to apply through another country, which takes extra planning.
The main things to get right are your course, your documents, and your timing. If those are solid, the process is a lot smoother.

If you’re trying to apply for regularisation and feel stuck, you’re not alone. Many people are facing the same issues right now: no appointments, missing documents, and unclear information.
The most important thing to understand is this: you do not need a perfect application to start. Waiting until everything is ready can lead to missed deadlines or losing eligibility altogether. In most cases, you can submit your application and provide missing documents later when requested.
Focus first on what matters most. Make sure you have proof of your presence in Spain, your identification, and begin the process of obtaining your criminal record certificate. If documents are delayed, keep evidence of your attempts. This can support your case.
If you cannot get an appointment, do not stop. Online submission is often the most effective route, especially when in-person access is limited.
Requirements are not the same for everyone, so avoid relying on general advice. What applies to one person may not apply to you.
If you are unsure about your situation, get guidance before submitting. A small mistake can delay your process significantly, but the right steps early on can make a difference.

This case marks an important milestone for us at NIE.CAT.

We have now had our first regularisation application submitted and admitted for processing, with provisional authorisation to reside and work granted in under 15 days.

It highlights a key point that is often misunderstood in the process. An application submitted on 17 April was accepted and, as a result, the applicant is now legally authorised to work while the file is being reviewed, including both employed and self-employed activity across the national territory.

Many applicants delay submitting because they believe everything must be complete in advance. In practice, once an application is correctly prepared, submitted, and admitted, it can unlock rights during the processing phase.

What matters most is understanding the process, submitting correctly, and focusing on the documents that determine eligibility.

Each case is different, and timelines can vary, but this is a strong example of what can happen when the process is handled properly from the beginning.
