HISTORY

1953

The history of the maritime transport sector return to the early fifties of the last century which has been formed the Federation of Egyptian shipping companies in 1953, as a desire to create an integrated maritime organization to unite the efforts of the Egyptian navigation companies.

1957

In January 1957 establishedthe General Committee for Maritime Transport affairsAct No. 4 of

1957, which is the first step of the foundingthe Egyptian Company for maritime transportand the establishment of this Committee in order to organize the Egyptian maritime transport sector to serve the national economy, which was intended to organize and coordinate the work of the maritime transport between the Egyptian shipping companies in order to achieve maximum benefit from the potential of these companies .. And also to be the technical coordinator for the governmental and public organizations that need to maritime transport services.

1959

In March 1959 established theGeneral Authority for Maritime Transportto replace the previous Committee in its Responsibilities and Functions with these expansion of Responsibilities and Functions for initiate the Egyptian navigation planning policy and support of the national fleet and the expansion of the conclude agreements with shipping conferences.

1961

In August 1961 established theGeneral Association for Maritime Transportwas modified and renamed in the same year to theEgyptian General Association for maritime transportand the institution of an economic nature works on the development of national economy in all aspects of maritime activity.

1963

In the March 4th, 1963 establishedthe Egyptian company for maritime transportunder resolution 415 of 1963 with a capital of 500000 pounds (as Egyptian joint stock Company) and owned by the state to engage in acts of maritime transport till these days.

1991

The company continued to book spaces till the rising of the law number (203) for the year 1991 which authorized to produce a law for the public sector companies until its capital reached 47 million Egyptian pounds owned by the holding company for inland and maritime transport and all assets and company's participates in capital of common companies were transferred to the holing company in order to proceed the privatization process

1999

The company moved to the rules of the law number (159) for the year 1981 which responsible of the share holding companies with capital 10 000000 ( only 10 million Egyptian pounds) divided on 2 000000 ( 2 million share ) and share value is 5 pounds owned by : the union of employee of share holders in Martrans company and the holding company for inland and maritime transport.

2005

The general assembly of the holding company for inland and maritime transport took the decision to consider 1/7/2005 is the chosen date to transfer the 70% of Martrans's shares to the account of the national navigation company and so the percentages of the share holders became

National navigation 70%

Martrans 25%

The holding company for inland and maritime transport 5%
