Kunagi tähendas sõna ühisrahastus (inglise keeles crowdfunding) midagi halba – ettevõtmist, millega üritatakse teilt tõenäoliselt raha röövida. Samamoodi oli algul ka krüptorahaga ja nn ICO-ga (inglise keeles Initial Coin Offering – esmane krüptožetoonide pakkumine).

Igasuguse ärimudeli, mis oli seotud nende rahaliste vahendite kaasamisega, hävitasid pangad ja nende rahvusvahelised partnerid eos. Need ajad on juba möödas ning ühisrahastus ja ICO on muutunud täiendavateks võimalusteks, mis pakuvad ettevõtetele ja eraisikutele head alternatiivi oma äriideede ellu viimiseks.
