Baby born in Berlin?
Registering your baby’s birth at the Standesamt can be confusing, especially for international parents.
You may need to understand:
✓ which Standesamt is responsible
✓ which documents are required
✓ whether translations are needed
✓ what happens if the parents are not married
✓ how the citizenship check works
✓ how to respond to Standesamt letters
Important: A baby born in Germany is not automatically German only because of the birthplace. German citizenship at birth may apply if at least one parent has lived legally in Germany for at least 5 years and has a permanent right of residence.
ExpatEaze helps international parents in Berlin with Standesamt letters, document preparation, German ↔ English support, and follow-up communication.
