My law firm is small, consisting of my junior lawyer and my secretary, located in the centre of Nicosia and focuses mainly on the private client, but we also advise on commercial matters. Effort is made to reach the best possible result at the minimum cost at the least expedient way and as quickly as possible, aiming to reach compromise and avoid litigation, if that can be avoided, without undermining the client’s rights. A variety of innovative strategies and techniques is offered that will allow the client to achieve the desirable result or in obtaining the best possible result, with the capability to customize the answer to each specific situation, aiming to avoid any waste of time and money. The key to providing effective services is the ability to understand the client’s needs, interpret them in a legal and commercial context and deliver cost-effective, timely and, above all , an understandable solution and a fair compromise. I belong to the school of thought that the lawyer as a peacemaker has superior opportunity of being a good man and, as such, he should persuade to compromise whenever he can and…..there will still be enough business..! My experience from day to day litigation has shown that an out of court settlement of a case may , sometimes, be more beneficial than if the case goes to full trial, as extensive costs and time consuming procedures will be avoided. Another unforeseen sometimes factor is that, an out of court settlement, saves the litigants from having the unpleasant experience of litigation in our adversarial legal system, that of being cross examined.
