On December 23, 2024, the Cyprus Parliament amended the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering Activities law of 2007 (Ν. 188(I)/2007 , specifically targeting cash transactions to strengthen the country's AML framework. The revised Law now prohibits cash payments exceeding €10,000 for goods, services, and real estate transactions.

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (“CySEC”) has officially announced on November 13, 2024 (“Announcement”), the beginning of acceptance of applications and notifications for preliminary review and assessment from prospective Cypto-Asset Service Providers (“CASPs”) in compliance with the upcoming Markets in Cypto-Assets Regulation, the so-called MiCAR.
