Serbia is more than a welcoming country and supports expatriates by predicting the various possibilities of regulating their temporary or permanent stay. A career decision, personal challenge, to start an own business, finding a new apartment, to follow a spouse or partner, because of a graduate program or you simply like it, there are a lot of possible reasons to move to Serbia.

Hi everyone!

My name is Frankie, and I am a 3-year-old pug. The person with me here is Miguel Jaramillo. He came to Serbia from Seville a decade ago, in 2013, and there wasn’t a single moment until today that he regretted that decision.

He came to Serbia to work as a film post-producer, and after a year and a half Living here, he met the love of our life, Gala.

They got married in Krusevac in 2021. I remember that well because I chewed Miguel's shoes after the ceremony. Don't be so hard on me. I was just a puppy.

Living the Serbian culture fully, blending with the locals, learning the language, and becoming a part of this awesome Serbian family was an easy task. Everyone here makes you feel like you are at home from the first day.

I advised him in 2022 to stop making up jokes alone at home since it was too much for my poor pug ears. So he chose the path of stand-up comedy, which is a great way to focus on making other people happy so I can enjoy my lazy pug life. He is funny, but come on! I am more into cuddles and zoomies.

We love to enjoy every little thing life brings us, and we are very grateful that destiny put us here where we are now.

Nobody knows what the future will bring. The only sure thing is that Miguel, Gala, and I will keep going forward, enjoying every single sunset and sunrise covering the blessed lands of Serbia, our home.

Hello, lovely souls! 🌟 It's Blair here, sharing a glimpse into my journey from the City of Lights to the heart of Belgrade. 🌆 In June 2022, life gracefully nudged me towards this enchanting city, and what a serendipitous journey it has been.

From the cobbled streets of Paris to the warmth of Belgrade, every step felt like destiny unfolding. The friendliness of the people, the ease of getting around, the affordability, the vibrant social life – these elements wrapped me in a warm embrace, making Belgrade a place I'm proud to call home.

Originally a Massachusetts native, with a dash of New York spirit, my last decade has been a beautiful whirlwind of living abroad in various cities worldwide. Starting as an English teacher and evolving into an entrepreneur, the transition brought me to Belgrade, where I now own ABC Experiences & Events.

My venture here revolves around B2B consulting, event organization, and talent acquisition services. The heartbeat of my thriving network was born through enchanting afternoon tea parties, connecting entrepreneurs, business owners, and professionals in this vibrant city.

Belgrade has not just become my base; it's a canvas of endless possibilities. As I continue to weave dreams and create experiences, I am grateful for the beautiful community that has embraced me. Here's to writing the next chapter together!

Hola 🙂 Agustín from Montevideo, Uruguay here.

I have been coming and going from Belgrade for the last 3 years, and finally earlier this year decided to settle down. Whenever people ask me how come I ended up in Belgrade my answer I always tell them I can give you the full story but first let's sit down for a beer.

Everything started around 7 years ago when, as a 22 year old, decided to move to China for work. Without me knowing, those two years I spent living there changed the course of the rest of my life.

After those eye-opening first two years in China, I made the decision to move to Berlin, where I spent another couple of years. Even though I will never stop loving my small home country, I grew eager and eager to explore the world and get to know new people and cultures.

After a brief stint back home, I decided to set out and (I hate this cliche word but there’s nothing better to describe) become a “digital nomad”. By pure coincidence, and without knowing much about it, I started my trip in the Balkans. Belgrade was actually the third capital in the region I visited, but as soon as I landed and hopped on the taxi in the airport I knew there was something special about it; and here I can already mention what I love the most about Serbia - it’s people. I believe most serbs would agree, there is a strange similarity between latinos and Serbians. I cannot point exactly what it is, but there is a warmth to its people that is impossible to find somewhere else in Europe.

I spent the next 3 years traveling across Europe, Asia and Africa. Over the course of these years I kept coming back to Belgrade, even though I had this rule of not visiting the same place twice, Belgrade was always the exception.

As my third year of traveling was starting, I started to notice that I wanted to settle down somewhere soon; and for me the answer was obvious, it had to be in Belgrade. As I always do, it took me just a couple of days to make the decision, and just after a couple of months I was on the process of moving and settling.

Hi guys, I’m Gleb, and moved to Serbia in 2020.

What truly draws me to this enchanting country extends beyond its picturesque landscapes. The people here, with their genuine warmth and kind personalities, have made Serbia my home. It also has an array of hidden gems, from its breathtaking mountains, mystical caves, to crystal-clear springs that beckon adventure.

Growing up in Russia’s rustic countryside, I developed a deep appreciation for the simple, healthy lifestyle that Serbia offers. It’s a place where the pace of life allows you to savor every moment, surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Moreover, the vibrant cities in Serbia, each with its own distinct character, add a dash of excitement to everyday life. The lively culture and the delectable cuisine are a few more reasons I’m drawn to this wonderful place. And let’s not forget the soul-stirring Serbian music that fills the air with its captivating melodies, especially turbo folk 😁

Hi, I’m Maria and I want to be a citizen of the world!

Originally from Moscow, Russia, I have lived, studied, volunteered and traveled in 50+ countries. My story with Belgrade started in 2018 when I enrolled in University for Peace and Development UP UN to get more knowledge and involvement with international NGOs. Since then I have turned my marketing career to non-profit, helping NGOs to make their operations efficient and use professional tools and methods. My passion is about getting people involved in non-profit activities, as we are all able to make a positive change in this world.

In 2022 we’ve moved to live in Belgrade with my adopted dog - Marta and I’m glad I can provide the best life possible for her here in this welcoming and dog-friendly city. We enjoy long walks on the waterfront and by the fortress, in the parks. Greetings, smiles and extra belly rubs for Marta - seeing how people react to dogs here fills my heart with joy.

I’m always  glad to share experience and my knowledge so don’t be shy to reach out to if you think I can be of help!

Hi! I am Cecilia, from Argentina.

I have been living in Belgrade for more than 10 years now, but if feels like it was yesterday when I moved here.

I met my husband by "chance" in Buenos Aires, when he was on holidays there, and we stayed together since that day.
After 4 years in Buenos Aires we decided to try our luck here, and I don't regret the desicion! Life here is good. Belgrade is a great city. Big enough but not to big, safe, friendly and in the last years it became very pluricultural, which I love.

In Argentina I worked as a makeup artist in the film industry, and when I moved here I changed a bit my approach on my work but I still work in beauty.
Now I have my studio of eyebrow threading, makeup, and other things in the city center. You can check out my work on mi Instagram profile

Thank you Serbia for receiving me and all of us foreignes with open arms♡

Hello, I'm Laura from Cuba😊
In the two months that I've been here, I've been asked many times: "Where are you from?" and when I answer them they say: "From Cuba? So white?" I nod and smile politely, because I'm used to it by now. Some of us were born to be strangers everywhere. "Do you like Belgrade? And why do you want to live here?"

Belgrade seems to me a magic city. Its people are warm and friendly, the food is tasty, there are beautiful flowers everywhere. Walking through its streets is a daily trip, a constant discovery, a call to be focused on every detail. Some things even remind me of Havana. So yes: Belgrade is my home for now.

On the other hand, I have always been an entrepreneur . I like the financial and existential independence that being your own boss gives you. And if the roof in Cuba was too small for me, what to do? Just like a plant needs to be transplanted into a new pot when the first one is too small for it, I decided to transplant myself to Belgrade. I packed my university degree in Social Communication, some clothes and some belongings, my collection of Funko Pops, a lot of hopes and expectations, and I came here to pursue several of my great passions: graphic design, marketing and social media management.

Some people admire that decision: "It's something I could never do!" Yes it's hard. Part of your roots always take something from your original land, you know? You miss people who are far away; you understand that, no matter how hard you try, your new reality leads you to think differently, to want different things, to separate yourself from everything that was safe, firm and true.

But it's okay. A couple of years ago I understood that the word "homeland" doesn't exactly move me. At least not how they taught me in school. My homeland is me. Wherever I go, as long as I am happy, I'll be fine, no matter if it is Kuala Lumpur, Belgrade or Dubai. And every Sunday afternoon, after doing all the chores around the house, I smoke one of the ci**rs I brought from Cuba and have a glass of rakija. That's happiness! ¡Salud! 🇨🇺 Živeli! 🇷🇸

¡Hola! I am Norma from Mexico City 🇲🇽
I came to Belgrade first time in 2017, little I knew back then, that it would become my home few years later.
Belgarde was part of a 2 year non-stop travel adventure; I came here after a recommendation by a colleague in Prague, as she insisted it to be the best party city in the Balkans. Whoever knows me for few seconds can reckon those words alone sold me the idea😄
Although I didn´t stay for long at that time, I came back more than once and finally stayed long term about 3 years ago.
As food industry professional, I noticed right away the good quality of the ingredients in Serbia; here it´s extremely easy and affordable to find ¨organic quality¨ goodies at the green market, or dig deeper and you´ll find wider variety of greens, spices, meat and dairy products - all belonging to the gourmet spectrum without the deserved recognition.
This encouraged me to start my first commercial venture in the country: Centli Tiendita Mexicana , Mexican ingredients with locally grown resources. For Mexicans, the first thing that makes us think about packing our bags & head back to Mexico - is the food. We have a deep connection to our traditional gastronomy and sometimes, is hard for us not to miss it, even though we obviously enjoy other cuisines, we always have that little voice in the background of our desires that calls for tacos, which guided me to the second venue that Belgrade gave me the opportunity to undertake: La Chona Taqueria de Barrio .bg an authentic Mexican taqueria that provides that basic comfort food that I have craved for, ever since I took the first flight out from my homeland.
I guess Im wired to spread a bit of Mexico wherever life takes me! With the support of a great team of around 15 amazing people - working in various areas - from planting the seed in the ground, all the way to serving a taco plate, I can say that mission is being accomplished☺️
I have found out though, that Serbian people have received really well this cultural exchange, I guess is influenced by the similarities that our cultures share, and the reason why we Latinos feel so welcome when visiting and living in Serbia❤️

Twenty years ago, I traveled from Ecuador to the United States to study College. With some knowledge of English, I had to figure it out and survive in a different country. I studied art and made lifelong friends from all around the world. Danilo, my husband, went to the same university from Belgrade, and life surprised us by putting us together in the perfect place and at the exact moment.
After finishing our careers and getting married, we decided to live in Ecuador, an adventure that lasted eight beautiful years. Back in Ecuador, I studied tourism and worked in the industry for seven years.

We had our first son in Cuenca, but our family wasn’t yet complete. The desire for more adventures motivated us to come to Belgrade eight years ago, where we had our second son. As a family, we had created our own culture mixing three languages and all the experiences that traveling, art, and technology had challenged us. We speak three languages, and seeing a mixture of dishes and international flavors at our table is not surprising.

The first time I visited was in 2006, and as a couple, we had the opportunity to see the city grow and change enormously to become a contemporary metropolis. We prefer life in suburban areas. With a short distance to the city center, we can enjoy both the urban opportunities and the beauty of the countryside. Life in the garden is happier and keeps us busy.

I moved from Stockholm to Belgrade 1,5 years ago because of my boyfriends work. It was important for me to have my own intention. I had a feeling since a while that i needed to catch up with myself, get thrown out of everyday patterns and create space to focus creatively. Belgrade became my chance to deepen and explore my passion for music. To leave the comfortable and familiar bubble and challenge myself.

I found a lot of passion in this city, paired with accessibility and possibilities. I found a mentor that helped me elevate my music mixing skills from those of a dedicated dancer and listener to those needed to curate and display to other people what I had in my head and legs for so long. As trails and treasures here are easy to find, one encounter led to another. A couple of weekends ago i got to play some of my favourite acid tracks underground in Zagreb in old modernist complex. That is a little dream that Belgrade allowed to happen. The city is full of passionate creatives with open minds and heart, willing to share space with others. This mentality is extremely valuable and pretty rare.

There are a lot of stories being told in Belgrade. Parallell tracks played. Many different flavours. People here are closer to what really matters because it is not to be taken for granted. The willingness to share and give is special. Living here i had some of the most fundamental and humbeling learnings and experiences I had. Not only connected to music but in life.

So… My name is Cristian (or Kristijan as Serbs say) and I ended up in Belgrade almost 10 years ago now.

I ended up here, almost by mistake. I had an offer from a company to relocate to Belgrade and I refused vehemently to move since I was not keen on being an “ex-pat” . But how life wants, my partner at that time who was a foreigner living in my home country Romania, had to leave the country for a year. So we decided rather spontaneously (although I had my own business in Romania) that this would be kind of a perfect “escape”. So there was the plan.. move to Belgrade for 2 max 3 years.

And now, 10 years later, I realized that this country gets a grip on you and well…. Like a very good mistress, it makes it extremely hard for you to leave her. So here I am, 10 years later, still in Belgrade.

The hardest question I get asked here is Odakle ste? Because to that, my answer is rather complicated… Romania, Serbia, Hungary and Germany! So I might answer European. I am originally Romanian, have a home in Hungary, work and live most of the time in Serbia (although here I am the manager of the Regional office for the Balkans of the German National Tourism Board, and I am almost every week either in Belgrade, Bucharest, Sarajevo, Podgorica, Sofia, Zagreb, Berlin or Frankfurt). So now you see how the question “where are you from” is the hardest to answer for me.
This is one of the resons  why to the question "Razumete srpski?", after 10 years, I have to answer Razumem samo malo, ne govorim nista.

And although I sound maybe like a serious businessman, the other part of my life is Art Analog Photography , travel  and music (I sometimes play guitar and also vocals).

And I could go on and on about me and Serbia… but Instagram would severely limit me in expressing how I feel about the country where I fell in love, but also the same country in which my car was stolen! (long story short, my car was stolen from city center a few years back). But not even that made me leave… so no idea what will. So yeah, let's catch up in the next 10 years!;)

¡Holaaaa! I'm Marianne, from Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Destiny took me to Belgrade 10 years ago.

It all started with a 16-hour connection flight, I was flying from Athens to Split - my Greek friend knew about this long connection in Belgrade and asked her Serbian friend Nikola to pick me up at the airport, take me to experience famous Belgrade nightlife and bring me back to take my flight. But, when I was doing immigration, the airport police told me very unkindly: you need visa, you can't leave the airport. What??? I could have just stayed with that and waited for my next flight, but of course, I'm a stubborn Latina and I immediately told the officer (also to break her nerves since she was very rude) "I want to talk to my embassy". Guess what? Five minutes later, she came with the phone and gave it to me - I was talking to the Embassador of Venezuela by that time, who turned out to be from my hometown and professor of my university. She immediately recognized my accent and told me "I will be there in 20 min". They gave me the visa, I didn't even care anymore about my connection to Split and decided to stay and experience the city. Important fact, that Nikola guy, who took me to party that night, became my husband and my partner in the most incredible project of my life: Gala (7 yo) & Teo (4 yo).

I'm an architect and own a brand of architectural jewelry

Running a business in this country hasn't been an easy task for me, but putting bureaucracy aside, I have just positive and wonderful things to say about my beloved Serbia. No doubts people are the main gem of this country, warm, kind and with a hospitality I've never experienced before.

I feel very thankful to spend this phase of my life here, in this city that I can call, with full heart, home.
