Defamatory social media posts can carry significant legal and financial consequences, including when they target municipal employees.

In Parry v. Harper, 2026 SKKB 113, the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench considered a defamation claim arising from Facebook posts about a municipal employee.

TDS Lawyers Jennifer Hanson and Margaretha Spezzano, together with Articling Student Kaitlyn Mitchell, examine the decision and its implications for municipalities and the protection of public service workers.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to listen, learn and reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools.

Since 1887, TDS has grown alongside Manitoba's legal community. We acknowledge that our offices are located on the lands of Treaties 1, 2 and 6, the traditional homelands of the Anishinaabe, Blackfoot, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dene, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota and Métis Nations.

We also acknowledge that the water we drink in Winnipeg is sourced from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, and recognize the history and ongoing realities connected to that relationship.

Reconciliation is connected to the legal profession and to the laws, Treaties and systems that have shaped the relationship between Indigenous peoples and Canada. Indigenous laws, legal traditions and rights are integral to Canada's legal landscape.

Our lawyers, students and staff are encouraged to learn from Indigenous voices, deepen their understanding of Treaties, Aboriginal rights and the TRC's Calls to Action, honour Survivors and remember the children who never returned home.

What's better than a great day on the course? Being surrounded by good people and supporting a great cause. Not to mention, a break from the office.

Photos from TDS lawyers Leilani Kagan and Lisa Stiver, who joined clients at The Dream Factory’s annual golf event, alongside others from the community coming together to support Manitoba children facing serious illnesses.

The Dream Factory creates special experiences and lasting memories for children and their families. We’re always glad to be part of a day that brings people together for such an important cause.
