BREAKING NEWS: MAJOR EXPRESS ENTRY CHANGES COMING NOVEMBER 3, 2026!

Canada has announced significant changes to its Express Entry system that could improve permanent residence opportunities for skilled workers, particularly those with Canadian work experience or qualifying job offers.

What's changing?
✅ Up to 100 additional CRS points for qualifying job offers in designated high-wage occupations.
✅ Up to 70 additional CRS points for eligible Canadian work experience in high-wage occupations.
✅ LMIA no longer required for qualifying job offers to receive the new Express Entry points or meet certain Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades Program requirements.
✅ Express Entry draws temporarily paused for up to two weeks from November 3 while IRCC recalculates CRS scores.

Eligible occupations include certain roles in healthcare, engineering, skilled trades, technology and education.

Important: Candidates already in the Express Entry pool will have their scores automatically recalculated. However, those seeking points for a qualifying job offer must update their profiles with the required information before November 3.

In my personal opinion: this is a significant development for Canada's economic immigration system, particularly for skilled workers who have already established themselves in the Canadian labour market.

The removal of the LMIA requirement for qualifying job offers could also simplify the permanent residence process for eligible candidates and employers.

However, not every job offer or Canadian work experience will qualify for the additional points. Eligibility depends on the occupation, work experience and specific IRCC requirements.

With these changes approaching, I strongly encourage Express Entry candidates to review their profiles, verify their occupation classifications and reassess their immigration strategies.

EXPRESS ENTRY UPDATE: CANADA INVITES 752 PROVINCIAL NOMINEES FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE!

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted another Express Entry draw on October 13, 2026, issuing 752 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

📌 Latest Draw Highlights:
✅ Draw Date: October 13, 2026
✅ Invitations Issued: 752
✅ Minimum CRS Score: 772
✅ Draw Category: Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

This is the largest PNP-specific Express Entry draw since June 2026. The CRS cut-off increased from 725 in the previous PNP draw on September 28 to 772 in this round.

In my personal opinion, this draw reinforces the importance of provincial nomination as a pathway to Canadian permanent residence.

While a CRS score of 772 may seem extremely high, candidates with an Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination receive an additional 600 CRS points, significantly improving their chances of receiving an invitation.

For candidates struggling to achieve competitive CRS scores through Express Entry alone, exploring Provincial Nominee Programs could be an important strategy.

However, each province has its own eligibility requirements and priorities. Understanding which provincial pathways match your qualifications, work experience and employment opportunities is essential.

Don't focus only on your CRS score. Explore every immigration pathway you may qualify for!

🇨🇦 ALBERTA REFERENDUM: MAJOR IMMIGRATION CHANGES COULD BE ON THE HORIZON!

Alberta is preparing for a provincial referendum on October 19, 2026, that could influence the future of immigration, employment opportunities and access to public services for newcomers.

Premier Danielle Smith's government is asking Albertans to vote on several proposals, including:

✅ Greater provincial control over immigration, prioritizing economic immigration and employment opportunities for Albertans.

✅ Restrictions on public services, potentially limiting eligibility for healthcare, education and social programs based on immigration status.

✅ 12-month residency requirement for certain temporary residents before accessing provincially funded social support programs.

✅ Possible healthcare and education fees for temporary residents and their families.

The referendum also includes a proposal requiring proof of Canadian citizenship to vote in provincial elections.

My view as a Licensed Immigration Consultant:
These proposals could have significant implications for foreign workers, international students, employers and families planning their future in Alberta.

While provinces have an important role in immigration, attracting skilled international workers remains essential to addressing labour shortages and supporting economic growth.

It is important to remember that these proposals are NOT law. The referendum is non-binding, and any changes would require further government action, legislation or federal-provincial negotiations.

For those considering Alberta as an immigration destination, staying informed and planning carefully will be more important than ever.

How do we keep up when the world outside our company changes faster than we can adapt?

This quote made me pause.

For much of my 23 years leading Ann Arbour, our focus was straightforward: build strong cases, provide exceptional service and work towards the best possible outcomes.

Those commitments remain. But the environment around us has become far more challenging.

Programs open and close. Rules shift. Refusals can raise questions we struggle to explain. We encounter decisions that appear inconsistent with published guidance, and correcting errors takes time our clients cannot always afford.

One of the hardest parts? Clients look to us for answers, and sometimes we are still seeking those answers ourselves.

Alongside this, technology is changing how clients expect us to work—and how our team needs to work.

The task is daunting. I feel that responsibility every day.

At Ann Arbour, keeping pace means making room for continuous learning, reviewing our processes and communicating with clients even when there is no clear answer yet. It means explaining what we know, what remains uncertain and what we are doing next.

It also means adopting AI ethically: protecting confidential information, verifying its output and keeping professional judgment and accountability with people. Used thoughtfully, technology can reduce repetitive work and give us more time to listen, advise and support.

📢 CANADA INTRODUCES NEW ASYLUM APPLICATION RULES — EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 3, 2026

Canada is making important changes to how asylum and refugee protection claims are submitted through the IRCC Portal.

Starting November 3, 2026, applicants will face an updated online application process designed to improve the completeness of claims and streamline processing.

What is changing?
✅ Applicants with unfinished claims must answer additional questions and review previously saved information.

✅ Claims submitted by 11:59 PM ET on November 2, 2026, will not require additional information solely because of the transition, unless IRCC requests it.

✅ Applications already referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) will not be affected by the portal changes.

Importantly, the November 2 deadline is not a deadline to claim asylum. Applications can still be submitted afterward using the updated system.

My view as a Licensed Immigration Consultant: These changes highlight the growing importance of submitting accurate, complete and well-supported asylum applications. While modernization may improve processing efficiency, applicants must understand the requirements and ensure their documentation is properly prepared.

Anyone with an unfinished claim should review their application carefully and seek qualified professional guidance where necessary. The broader proposed asylum reforms should not be confused with the confirmed November 3 portal changes.
