It was a wonderful night attending the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. I enjoyed attending as a representative not only of Carter Notary but also of Think Local First, as its President. It was great to be in a room with so many local businesses represented.

A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that allows someone you choose to manage your financial and legal affairs if you’re unable to do so yourself. That might be due to illness, injury, or even just being out of the country for an extended period.

Choosing the right person to be your POA is very important. Ask these ten thoughtful questions before naming your POA.

1. Do I trust this person?
2. Are they financially responsible?
3. Are they willing to take on this role?
4. Do they live nearby?
5. How well do they handle stress and decision-making?
6. Will they respect my wishes... even if they disagree?
7. Do they communicate well with others?
8. Should I choose more than one person?
9. Is there any potential for conflict?
10. Have I clearly explained my expectations?

It was a fun evening attending the YAM Best Restaurant Awards at the Inn at Laurel Point. We have so many wonderful restaurants around Greater Victoria. Support local and eat local!

Congratulations to all of the winners, and to YAM Magazine for putting on such a wonderful event. Of course, the evening ended with delicious food!
