In six months, a lot can shift, including roles changing, managers handling issues differently, and templates quietly going out of date. A mid-year legal checkup helps you catch the gaps early so they do not turn into bigger problems later.

If you want support reviewing your employment practices, we can help:

Pride Month is a chance to recognize the value of workplaces where people can show up as themselves.

Inclusion is not just about statements. It shows up in everyday choices like respectful communication, fair policies, and creating space for different identities and experiences. A workplace culture that values diversity is stronger, healthier, and more sustainable for everyone 🌈

Most performance issues don't start with a formal warning. They start with small things that get overlooked, vague feedback that doesn't land, or conversations that get put off longer than they should.

By the time it becomes a bigger issue, both sides are usually already frustrated. Getting ahead of it early, with clear expectations and proper documentation, is almost always the better path.

We cover what that looks like in practice for both employers and employees in our latest blog.

A lot of workplace issues start with gaps in the basics. For employers, a policy and contract review can help catch problems before they become expensive ones.

βœ… Outdated employment agreements
βœ… Missing or unclear workplace policies
βœ… Inconsistent expectations across the team
βœ… Gaps that could create unnecessary legal risk

These documents are not just administrative. They help set standards, protect your business, and give your team clearer direction.

Taking the time to review them now can help prevent bigger issues later. If you are not sure whether your contracts and policies are doing what they should, we can help you take a closer look.

Documentation isn't just paperwork. When a termination is challenged, it's often the first thing that determines how strong an employer's position actually is. Without it, even a legitimate termination becomes difficult to defend.

If you're an employer and you're unsure whether your processes are solid, it's worth reviewing before an issue comes up.

Are you actually satisfied in your job, or just getting through the week?

Job satisfaction is about more than hitting deadlines or showing up every day. It can also reflect whether you feel supported, respected, challenged in the right ways, and able to grow in your role.

Taking a step back to reflect on those things can be helpful. If you find yourself answering β€œno” to several of the questions below, it may be a sign that something needs to change.

That does not always mean quitting right away. Sometimes it starts with understanding your rights, looking at your options, and figuring out what a healthier work experience could look like for you.

If you are dealing with concerns at work and want to better understand where you stand, we can help.

A resignation needs to be clear and voluntary to be treated as one. What looks like an employee quitting in the moment can be challenged later, and how an employer responds in those first steps can have real legal consequences.

The same goes for job abandonment. Assuming someone has walked away without making reasonable efforts to find out what's happening is one of the more common mistakes that creates unnecessary risk.

Our latest blog breaks down where employers and employees tend to go wrong in these situations and what a more careful approach looks like.

If you live and work in BC, your workplace rights are generally governed by BC law, even if your employer is based somewhere else.

A recent tribunal ruling reinforced that point when an Alberta employer was found to be subject to BC’s Employment Standards Act because the employee lived and worked entirely in BC. Your employer’s head office is not what determines your rights. The location where the work is actually being performed matters.

That can affect things like minimum wage, overtime, termination notice, and job-protected leaves.

If you are working remotely and unsure whether your employer is following BC employment standards, we can help you understand your options.
