Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is trying something unusual: trademarking a four-second recording of her own voice.

Her goal? Add another layer of protection against AI-generated voice impersonations.

Sounds contradictory? It's not.

In a case involving Joules, the EU General Court confirmed that UK trademark rights could no longer support an EU trademark opposition after the Brexit transition period ended.

The trademarks didn't suddenly become invalid. The problem was where Joules was trying to use them.

And its remaining EU rights weren't enough to block the competing mark.

Here's what brand owners need to understand:

❌ A trademark in one country doesn't mean protection everywhere.

❌ Evidence of reputation in one market doesn't automatically prove reputation in another.

❌ Rights that supported a legal challenge at one stage may no longer qualify when the final decision arrives.

And the crazy part?

We don’t even know which Adidas trademark is at the center of the fight yet.

Adidas Australia has filed trademark litigation against Australian fashion retailer White Fox Boutique in the Federal Court of Australia.

Is it the famous three stripes?
Another Adidas trademark?
A specific design?

The public details aren’t clear yet.
