While Canada is coping with U.S. tariff uncertainty and higher global energy prices from the war in Iran, the economy and labour market meanwhile are showing signs of rebounding as Canada heads into a re-escalating trade war with the US.

There are two more interest rate announcements this year on Oct 28 and Dec 9. We will watch closely of BoC interest rate decisions.

~ 𝗕.𝗖. 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 ~

The B.C. government announced that the 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝟮.𝟮%, down slightly from 2.3% in 2026. The new rent increase limit takes effect on Jan. 1, 2027. This is the seventh consecutive year that the maximum allowable increase has been capped at or below inflation, according to the BC Housing Minster.

Rent can only be increased once every 12 months and must not exceed the allowable annual rent increase limit.

The rent increase does not apply to commercial tenancies, non-profit housing tenancies where rent is geared to income, co-operative housing and some assisted-living facilities.

If landlords choose to increase rent, they must abide by the Residential Tenancy Act and provide three months notice to tenants using the correct Notice of Rent Increase form.

The Bank of Canada will announce its next interest rate decision this Wednesday Sept 2.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨:
• July 15, 2026: Hold at 2.25%
• June 10, 2026: Hold at 2.25%
• April 29, 2026: Hold at 2.25%�• March 18, 2026: Hold at 2.25%�• January 28, 2026: Hold at 2.25%

Between trade adjustments, global energy price swings, and a tricky economic landscape, the central bank is waiting out the storm before making any major moves. Economists are widely predicting that the Bank of Canada will hold its benchmark interest rate steady at 2.25% at its upcoming policy meeting.

Good news! Canada’s economy rebounded sharply in the second quarter, thanks to a jump in exports and stronger domestic investment, according to Statistics Canada data.

The economy grew at an annualized rate of 3.3% in the second quarter, following an upwardly revised 0.3%in the first quarter, Statistics Canada said. For the month of June, GDP was up 0.3%.

With the first-quarter revision, which was previously a slight contraction, Canada was not in a technical recession, which is usually two consecutive quarters of contraction.
