Canada has updated its National Occupation Classification (NOC) system, now named NOC 2021, shifting today to a new five-digit code system following the TEER categories (Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities). Former NOC Skill Types 0, A, B, C, and D will now be classified as TEER 0, TEER 1, TEER 2, TEER 3, TEER 4 and TEER 5.
With this transition, coming into effect today, 16 new occupations become eligible for Express Entry:
✅ Payroll administrators
✅ Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
✅ Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates
✅ Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
✅ Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
✅ Sheriffs and bailiffs
✅ Correctional service officers
✅ By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers
✅ Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations
✅ Residential and commercial installers and servicers
✅ Pest controllers and fumigators
✅ Other repairers and servicers
✅ Transport truck drivers
✅ Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators
✅ Heavy equipment operators
✅ Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
Those who received an Invitation To Apply (ITA) for permanent residence prior to November 16, are not required to update their NOC code. For all other scenarios, such as applicants in the Express Entry pool and new Express Entry applicants, they must update their profile with the new five-digit NOC code following the TEER categories.
