Why do regulatory bodies matter in immigration? 🇨🇦

Immigration lawyers and immigration consultants are subject to strict professional standards and codes of conduct that govern how they serve clients. These standards exist to ensure competence, ethical behaviour, and accountability in client representation.
If a professional fails to meet those standards, regulatory bodies can investigate complaints and, where appropriate, impose disciplinary measures. These can include fines, suspension, or even being removed from practice.
Some key points:
• Lawyers are regulated by provincial and territorial law societies
• Immigration consultants are regulated by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC)
• Both professions must follow binding professional rules and ethical standards
• Clients have formal complaint mechanisms if something goes wrong
