COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN EXTENDING YOUR STUDY PERMIT IN CANADA

When applying for a Study Permit extension, many students got rejected from IRCC and some of them don't know what did they do wrong. So here are several mistakes that are common to many international students might have:

👉Eligibility issues: Some students do not meet the requirements for a study permit such as having a long gap year during school, etc. Students need to ensure they are qualified for all of the requirements for a Study Permit.

👉Document submission issues: Some students might submit not enough required documents as the Canadian IRCC needs, or their documents are inaccurate so their application is rejected. Students should review their documents to ensure they have all documents and must be accurate before submitting them to Canadian Consulate.

👉Processing delays: The processing of study permit applications can sometimes be delayed, which can be frustrating and stressful for students.

👉Denied applications: In some cases, students may have their study permit applications denied, which can be a major setback and may require them to reapply or pursue other options.

❗4 REASONS WHY STUDENTS MAY NEED TO EXTEND THEIR STUDY PERMIT

A study Permit is an important document for a student which is proof of studying in Canada or other countries. Therefore, here are 4 reasons that will explain why students need to extend their Study Permit before expiring:

👉If students extend their Study Permit after the expiration, they will be counted as having "lost your status in Canada". It means students will not be allowed to continue their studies or work in Canada until they apply for renewal and Study Permit extension.
👉If students exceed 90 days without extending or renewing their Study Permit, they have to go back to their country. At this point, if students want to come back to Canada, they have to re-apply from the beginning as new applicants.
👉On the other hand, if students proceed with application renewal and extension, they are still allowed to stay in Canada while waiting for results legally although exceeding 90 days.
👉However, if students' application is still not available or they haven't received the result for more than 150 days, students must return to their home country.

❓CHANGING FROM A VISITOR VISA TO A STUDY PERMIT? IT'S SIMPLE

Are you interested in studying in Canada? Are you curious about student life in Canada when visiting this country? Here is the detailed guideline that shows step-by-step how to apply for a study permit as a visitor.

👉Step 1: Obtaining a Canadian Visitor Visa - Students must enter a Visitor Visa which allows them to stay in Canada for visiting or traveling.

👉Step 2: Enroll in a prerequisite program - Upon completion of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, which is often considered a prerequisite course, students may apply for conditional acceptance to both the EAP program and an academic program.

👉Step 3: Complete the prerequisite course and apply for a Study Permit - Students must submit EAP or prerequisite completion letter and a conditional acceptance letter to the academic program.

👉Step 4: Obtaining a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) - LOA is a required document that students will receive after receiving acceptance into a DLI.

👉Step 5: Gathering Required Documents - students need to prepare the necessary documents which are proof of identity, financial capacity, medical examination, and LOA from the DLI.

👉Step 6: Completing the Application - Students must proceed to submit documents as well as complete the Study Permit application form along with paying the fee to the Consulate for applying.

👉Step 7: Waiting for Processing - Processing times for study permit applications vary depending on the country/regions of application, as well as the current situation, but generally range from a few weeks to a few months.

👉Step 8: Receiving the Study Permit - Students will receive a Study Permit if their application is approved. This Study Permit will allow them to enter, stay and study in Canada for the duration of their program.

COMMON PGWP PROBLEMS AND HOW TO OVERCOME THEM

PGWP (Post-graduation Work Permit) is an open work permit for international students after finishing a post-graduation degree that in the Designated Learning Institution. Students can apply for Canada’s Permanent Residency (PR) after gaining Canadian experience in skill types 0, A, or B as defined by IRCC's National Occupational Classification (NOC). However, during the application process, there are several issues that interrupt students' process.

➡️ Incomplete study program: Unfinish their study program at least 8 months, taking short courses (3 or 6 months), or taking a distance learning program might fail to receive a PGWP.

➡️ Applying for ineligible DLI: students must have graduated from an eligible DLI in order to receive a legitimate PGWP.

➡️ Study gap: students who take a break from your educational program due to a teacher strike, switching schools or programs, extenuating personal reasons, or financial reasons AND did not present the facts clearly to IRCC disclosing the reason for the gap/break in studies will not be able to apply for PGWP.

❗️ ❗️ In case PGWP was refused, students could resubmit their application within 180 days with the full requirements that were missed in the previous submission. Students shall pay 200$ restoration fee for their study and work permit when they exceed 180 days and resubmit their study and work permit. Under IRCC regulation, a valid study permit is a must requirement for post-graduate work permit application.

(*) Note: In case students get rejected by having a study gap, students should seek professional advice for application resubmission guidance to get PGWP approval.

It is essential to seek application guidance if you are an international student in Canada and struggling with the PGWP process. Admission Hub is able to assist you to overcome issues related to your PGWP application and help you maintain your life in Canada.
