Dear clients,
As you may know, the COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented effect on individuals and businesses across the world. The Canadian government has encouraged offices to work remotely and for individuals to stay inside as much as possible.
Likewise, our office employees have been and will continue to work from home to do our part in stopping the spread of the virus. We are unsure of when we will be able to physically return to work but will notify you as soon as we have a positive update from the government.
We would like to take this time to provide you all with some important information regarding how our firm’s operations will continue for the following weeks:
• Our office hours remain the same;
• Our method of contact remains the same, meaning our phones will ring at home when you call our main line;
• There will be NO in-person meetings;
o If you have pre-scheduled time to meet with Aliza or anyone else at the office, please contact us to re-schedule or to make other arrangements
o All documentation requiring signatures or initials will be sent to you via Docusign
• Mediations, discoveries, and court proceedings have been cancelled until further notice. We are working with everyone to reschedule these events and you will be contacted to confirm new dates.
• LAT hearings will go on as normal as these are conducted via phone;
• Payments (settlement or otherwise) will be sent to you via express post;
• Some of you will also be contacted if your medical appointments have been cancelled or postponed due to the virus.
As well, the government of Canada has just released the economic measures they are taking to assist individuals and businesses through this time. If you have been laid off or are in quarantine due to the pandemic and you DO NOT have EI, please refer to the government website to see what income-related benefits you may be entitled to during this time. See link: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/news/2020/03/canadas-covid-19-economic-response-plan-support-for-canadians-and-businesses.html
You may need to sign up for an online CRA account, which can be done here: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/e-services-individuals/mycra.html
We are aware that you may have many questions and concerns about how this pandemic may affect your case. As we are familiarizing ourselves with these new government measures, we will be ready to advise shortly.
Please feel free to contact us at any time.
Be safe and be well,
The Karoly Law Team
