As the seasons change, maintaining a sense of routine can be especially important for children. During separation or divorce, familiar routines can give children a sense of stability and reassurance, even when other aspects of family life are changing.

Consistent bedtimes, homework schedules, school-day routines, extracurricular activities, and family meals can help children know what to expect from day to day. When both parents make an effort to maintain similar routines across households, children may find transitions between homes easier to manage.

For separated parents, communication and consistency can go a long way. Agreeing on practical routines and keeping expectations as consistent as possible can help create a more predictable environment for children while also making co-parenting smoother.
