Bring Your Family Closer with Canada's Open Work Permits: Now Available for Outland Applications!
Family is everything, and Canada understands that. A shining beacon for immigration, Canada has always prioritized family reunification, making it a fundamental element of its immigration strategy. And now, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has taken a significant step further to bring more families together, faster!
If you are a spouse, partner, or dependent of a permanent resident, Canadian citizen, temporary worker, or student already in Canada, you may now be eligible for an Open Work Permit. Before, these permits were only accessible for inland sponsorship applications or those already in Canada on a Temporary Residence Visa (TRV). But guess what? The game has changed! If you're applying from outside Canada (outland sponsorship), you can now qualify for an open work permit.
Who's considered a family member? If you're a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, or a dependent child over 18 years old, you fit right in! And here's more good news: IRCC aims to process all spousal sponsorship applications within just 12 months.
So, are you ready to sponsor your family for Canadian immigration?
Let's dive into the eligibility criteria for open work permits. As per IRCC, if you have valid temporary resident status, have maintained that status or are eligible for and have applied to restore your status, and share the same residential address with your sponsor in Canada, you could be well on your way to getting an open work permit!
As a testament to Canada's unwavering commitment to family reunification, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced some additional measures on May 26:
1. Faster processing times for temporary resident visa (TRV) applicants,
2. Dedicated processing tools specifically for spousal TRV applicants,
3. Open work permit extensions for permits expiring between August 1st and the end of 2023.
In the words of Minister Fraser, IRCC is determined to reunite families faster and enable them to work and sustain themselves more rapidly once they're in Canada. By doing so, Canada isn't just helping newcomers realize their full potential; it's also fortifying its own economy and social fabric.
So don't wait! Start the journey to bring your loved ones closer, and let Canada be your family's new home.
