Final call: the Yukon Nominee Program review survey closes tomorrow (Oct 8). If you are a Yukon employer or a worker whose future in the territory runs through YNP, this is the window to say how the program should work from 2027. Three short surveys via the Yukon Bureau of Statistics. Not a rule change β€” just the consultation closing.

IRCC invited 3,500 skilled trades workers to apply for permanent residence in the Oct 1 Express Entry draw β€” the largest trades round on record, with a CRS cut-off of 476 (down from 477 in April). At exactly 476, only profiles submitted before May 28, 2026 were invited. Trades rounds are rare β€” only two this year. If you work in the trades and sit near 476, now is the time to make sure your profile is ready.

The Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment lands tomorrow (Oct 5) β€” the second quarterly payment of the benefit year, up to $169.75 per quarter for a single person. Most recipients get it automatically, but newcomers who haven't filed a first Canadian return must apply with Form RC151 (or RC66 with newcomer info for the child benefit). Arrived in Canada this year and haven't applied? This money won't come on its own β€” we can point you to the right form.

Canada has extended its temporary Ebola-related immigration measures through November 27, 2026. Immigration documents remain suspended for residents of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan β€” including those holding previously approved visas, permits or eTAs. IRCC is still processing affected applications, just not finalizing them. If your file touches any of these countries, talk to us before making travel plans.

Foreign-trained doctors: there is a new Express Entry pathway. IRCC announced a dedicated category for internationally trained physicians with at least one year of full-time Canadian work experience in an eligible occupation within the past three years. 5,000 additional PR spaces are reserved for provinces to nominate licensed doctors with job offers, with work permits processed within 14 days. Physicians can include family members. We can assess your eligibility.

On a work permit? You may now study without a study permit. Under IRCC's new temporary public policy (signed August 5, in effect September 4, 2026), eligible work permit holders can take programs of 6 months or less without a separate study permit, until their permit expires or December 31, 2027. IRCC is notifying eligible workers directly. Full-time or longer studies still require a study permit, and this is not a route to enter Canada. Check your notice carefully before enrolling β€” we can help you confirm eligibility.

Good news for work permit applicants. As of September 17, IRCC officers can no longer summarily refuse employer-specific work permits over doubts about a job offer. Officers must now issue a procedural fairness letter setting out their specific concerns, and the employer gets 15 days to respond with evidence before a decision is made. If your work permit was refused on genuineness grounds, this change may matter for your next steps β€” talk to us.
