Gym openly flouting Covid rules finally sees that Court means business. For most gyms, being ordered closed for 6 months means the end of their business. However, many retail businesses are really money laundering operations. So, who knows? They may survive this shut down. Other businesses will see this action by government and suddenly feel more willing to comply.

I keep running across people with home made legal documents that they claim are official. They think these forms magically convey on them some authority to stop someone from doing something they don't like. For instance, right wingers are 'serving' media outlets with 'Notice of Liability' forms. These forms have no more legal status than you writing a threat to sue on a Post-It and giving it to someone you don't approve of.

Secondly, Charter rights are not absolute. There are restrictions on rights that are permitted. For instance, if you lie about someone, they can sue you for libel. Isn't that a violation of your freedom of expression? Not really.

Think not wearing a mask is your right? Not on private property according to the law. Businesses have the right to deny access to those without masks according to the BC Human Rights Tribunal. Some activists have argued that they have a disability so they can't mask up. The HR Tribunal says businesses can demand some proof. Don't want to wear a mask? Use curb side delivery.
