History at Bishop's

History at Bishop's The department of History and Global Studies at Bishop's University, Sherbrooke, Quebec.

At Bishop’s, we believe that historical knowledge serves an individual and society the way memory does. It gives us perspectives and insights into the world in which we live and present us with the almost limitless range of ways humans have organized their lives. We also understand that the past is presented or re-presented in specific ways by historians and others, such as politicians and heritag

e advocates; as a result, we believe it is just as important to learn about and analyze historical interpretations as it is to learn about the past itself.

Don’t miss the book launch for “Quebec’s Eastern Townships and the World” in Cleghorn today, November 7th, from 10am to 3pm!!
It is free and open to everyone.

The Eastern Townships of Quebec are celebrated in popular discourse as a charming and remote nature playground for busy Montrealers, an appendage to stately Quebec City, and a northern abutment to the Northeast Kingdom of the United States. A closer look reveals a region with its own gravity, sense of being, and worldly connections.

“Quebec’s Eastern Townships and the World” examines the region’s direct links to larger prevailing international forces and identities. Join us for panel discussions with contributors to this important anthology and find out more about the Eastern Townships as a centre, borderland, and lieu de passage between nations, communities, and peoples.

This event is brought to you by the Eastern Townships Resource Centre.

Today, we pause to honor the children who never returned home. We pause to honor the resilience and courage of the Survivors of residential schools. We recognize the profound and enduring impacts of this system on Indigenous peoples and communities.

We encourage everyone to continue listening, educating themselves, and working together toward healing, justice, respect, and unity.

EVERY CHILD MATTERS.

If you or someone you know needs help, the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line can be reached 24/7 for free at 1-866-925-4419. It is available both in French and in English, and is confidential.
