I have been practising law for 19 years now. I grew up on a farm outside Biggar, and I think I have always brought a bit of that farmer approach to practising law: talk to people like normal people, don’t make things more complicated than they need to be, and give people a straight answer. Over the years, I have been fortunate that a lot of people have come to trust me for that.
Since I moved to practising criminal law exclusively, one thing that has genuinely surprised me is how many people still reach out when they have a legal problem that has nothing to do with criminal law. Former clients, friends, people I have known over the years, and sometimes people I have never met who were simply told that I was someone they could trust. I appreciate that people trust me enough to make that call, and I am always happy to help.
I can’t represent you on every kind of legal problem anymore, but I can usually help you figure out who should. If I give you the name of another lawyer, it will be someone I trust and someone I would be comfortable sending a friend or family member to.
You can still call us after that, too. Sometimes people just want a question answered in plain English, want to know if something sounds right, or need some help explaining to their lawyer what they are concerned about. We are happy to help with that where we can.
So even though my practice is now criminal law only, if you have a legal problem and don’t know who to call, you can still call me. I may not be the lawyer who handles it, but I will do my best to get you to someone I trust.
