It feels like Fall! Back to school and back to alarm clocks, evenings are getting darker earlier too. What are you thinking you should prepare for? Dust off your Will and give it a read - see if you need to update it. If your Executor has moved to Nova Scotia, or your child is 25 and probably doesn't need a guardian, perhaps it's time to update.

The real estate market is changing quickly and the deal making likely to be more intense. Also given interest rate increases, I suspect we might be headed back into mortgage assumptions. As long as the Seller remembers that they stay obligated unless the lender provides a complete release, all is well with an assumption but it can be worrisome..... the always changing frontier.

Grandma said "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". I don't think we can convert that to metric too easily but the sentiment is still the same. The time you take to make informed proactive decisions and get legal advice will benefit - whether its a prenuptial agreement, a power of attorney, or an ownership agreement for the family cabin - worth saving the headache and heartache later.
