We are a progressive law firm situated in Downtown Revelstoke and serving clients throughout the Columbia-Shuswap, primarily in the areas of business law, estate planning and administration, real estate, and family law. Our practice is growing, and we offer a friendly, flexible, and supportive work environment.
We are looking for a lawyer to head our dispute resolution practice, which is primarily family law. However, as we are a small general practice, lawyers in our firm must be willing or able to practice in multiple areas as needed. Our priority is finding a lawyer who fits well with our culture of using processes and technology to drive value for our clients and increase job satisfaction for our team.

This is a partnership track position: our goal is to welcome the successful candidate as a partner after a mutually agreed trial period.

Characteristics of the successful candidate:

Progressive: you have a demonstrated history of rethinking both how you work and how you manage your practice in order to improve the experience and outcomes for your clients, your team, and yourself. You are not content with ‘the way it’s always been done.’

Value oriented: you are focused on resolving matters in alignment with our firm values and with our client goals as the top priority. You believe that the client is the expert of their own lives and experience.

Initiative: you are committed to improving our firm as a whole by identifying opportunities for growth and improvement, identifying where you can assist, and taking action.

Resilient: you are able to adapt your practices based on feedback from clients and stakeholders.

Enjoys People: you are a natural relationship builder, excited about helping our clients through complicated times in their lives and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications/Skills:
• Ideally, at least two years’ dedicated experience in family law and a commitment to continue practicing in that area
• Openness/ability to work in additional practice areas such as wills & estates, corporate, or real estate.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
• Must be comfortable with technology and working in a primarily paperless (cloud based) environment.
The Details:

Start Date: As soon as possible. Applications will be considered and interviewed on a rolling basis up to March 15.

Location: Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, or Golden. Preference will be given to those residing in the Columbia-Shuswap.

Compensation: Negotiable: fee splitting or base salary plus bonus; benefits negotiable based on employment type.

Position Type: Employee or independent contractor, with transition to partner.

How to apply: Send a cover letter and resume by email to [email protected]

It's becoming increasingly evident that “social distancing” is essential to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Even though there isn't yet a confirmed case of the virus in Revelstoke, we think it important to take steps now to protect the most vulnerable in our community. We don't think anyone should be afraid, but we believe strongly in the need to act now. This article has influenced our thinking: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/

Effective immediately, our office is generally not open for in person meetings. We are set up for remote work and are still fully operational. Here’s how we plan to operate:

1) We'll be responding to emails and answering phone calls during our regular office hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 5:00.

2) If you need to meet with us, we will schedule a telephone or video meeting depending on your preference.

3) As always, you can book an appointment by calling us at 250-837-4971, clicking the “Book an appointment” link in our email signatures, or accessing our online scheduler: www.calendly.com/mplg (Try it! It’s really easy to use and allows you to pick a time that’s convenient for you).

4) We use Zoom for video conferencing. Zoom is free, highly reliable, and works across any platform from a link we’ll send you. We encourage video meetings as they're the closest thing to an in-person meeting. Social distancing does not mean social isolation, and we’d love to see you!

5) If you think you need to meet in person, please give us a call at 250-837-4971, and we will discuss your individual situation. Generally, we'll be looking to meet in person only with those clients who have upcoming real estate closings and need to sign documents in front of a lawyer. If an in-person meeting is absolutely necessary, we'll implement a cleaning and distancing protocol and ask you to bring your own pen.

6) If you have an upcoming court date: the official guidance from the courts is evolving. At present, Provincial Court matters are proceeding as scheduled. Parties with Supreme Court matters are being encouraged to adjourn hearings to some point past the end of May. If you have a hearing coming up, we will be in contact with you specifically when we know more.

7) If you need to drop something off at our office – consider whether you can send us a scan or a photo of the document (there are many free scanning apps for smartphones). If not, please wash your hands before handling it and slip it under our door. We can plan for larger items if you call 250-837-4971.

8) If you’d like to pay an invoice, you can do that remotely by following the instructions set out at the bottom of the invoice.

9) Most importantly, if you're concerned about how your business or life will be affected by the virus, closures, or social distancing, please give us a call. We’d love to chat about it and, as always, provide free 15 minute legal information calls.

While we anticipate our transition to remote work will be a smooth one, we appreciate your understanding for any awkwardness or inconvenience. Thank you for your efforts to socially distance and keep our community strong and vibrant. Stay healthy!

The early trickle of new coronavirus infections has turned into a steady current. By creating simple simulations, we can see how to slow it down.
