Safety planning can be an important step for anyone experiencing abuse or preparing to leave an unsafe relationship. ๐Ÿ’œ

At the Womenโ€™s Legal Clinic, we help clients create personalized safety plans as part of our trauma-informed legal support, advocacy, and navigation. A safety plan is a practical tool that can help someone stay safer before, during, or after leaving an abusive relationship.

Safety planning can include:
๐Ÿ”น recognizing danger signs
๐Ÿ”น identifying safe places to go
๐Ÿ”น listing emergency contacts
๐Ÿ”น gathering important documents
๐Ÿ”น packing essentials
๐Ÿ”น protecting your technology
๐Ÿ”น staying safer during incidents
๐Ÿ”น planning to leave

Our Legal Advocates can work with clients to create a plan tailored to their needs, choices, and circumstances. We use the PATHS SK CAP tool to support this process.

Understanding the language around violence can help people recognize harm, name their experiences, and know when support may be available. ๐Ÿ’œ

Gender-based violence can take many forms, including physical, sexual, emotional, financial, psychological, or technology-facilitated harm. It can happen in relationships, families, workplaces, institutions, online spaces, and communities.

No matter the form it takes, violence is never the survivorโ€™s fault.

The Womenโ€™s Legal Clinic supports women and gender-diverse people in Saskatchewan whose legal issues are connected to gender-based violence, criminalization, or colonialism.
