Our law firm is proud to help people throughout the economic spectrum. We provide the same high quality of service to our clients, regardless of whether they are covered through the Legal Aid system or not.

All that being said, inflation is squeezing the Legal business pretty hard. Criminal defence lawyers the most, as the fixed (and low by comparison to other legal work) rate of Legal Aid is severely impacting the Justice system.

Hopefully the government, as the main funder of legal Aid, steps up to the plate and addresses these issues.

Change has come to Red Deer Law Group, with Randy MacDonald departing private practice in favour of returning to the Crown Prosecutor's office.

His files will be primarily handed over to Norm Kelly, the newest member of Red Deer Law Group who brings with him close to 30 years of practice for both the Crown and Defence.

From the Provincial Court website :

As of Tuesday March 17, 2020, if you have a family, civil, criminal court or a Provincial Offences/traffic court appearance in the Alberta Provincial Court, you do not need to attend unless the matter is an in-custody or urgent criminal matter, or an urgent family or child protection matter.

No members of the public will be permitted in court rooms unless they are required for a court matter (parties, witnesses, media). Legal counsel are permitted access to the Court house for urgent court-related business.

Do not come into a courthouse in person if you have been advised to self-isolate by public health officials, your doctor or the Alberta Health Services website; or you are self-isolating as a result of travel or contact with individuals with COVID-19.
