Huge Win for First-Time Home Buyers! 🏠💰

It’s been 35 years in the making, but the GST rebate just got a massive upgrade. Federal Bill C-4 officially passed on March 12, 2026, and the savings are significant.

Here are the new rules, effective March 20, 2026:

• Homes up to $1M: 100% GST Rebate (Save up to $50,000!)

• $1M – $1.5M: Rebate phases out (e.g., at $1.25M, you still save $25,000).

• $1.5M+: No rebate available.

⚠️ Note: If you purchased a qualifying home between the announcement date on May 27, 2025 and now, you may be eligible for the exemption. Please check with your tax professional.

⚠️ Note: The PTT exemption for all buyers purchasing a new build up to $1.1 million is still in effect.

This is the first major adjustment to these thresholds in decades, providing a much-needed boost to affordability in higher-priced markets like ours here in Oceanside.

The Bank of Canada reduced its target for the overnight lending rate today by 25 basis points to 4.75%. The long-awaited move comes after 11 months of rate holds, and marks the first time in more than four years that the key lending rate has been cut. 📣🔑

“Our research indicates that half of sidelined homebuyers in Canada plan to resume their home search plans once the bank rate begins to drop. This will no doubt spark activity and put upward pressure on home prices in the second half of the year,” said Phil Soper, president and CEO of Royal LePage. 🏠
