Our very own Navpreet Chhina wrapped up a presentation on Workplace Sexual Misconduct at the employment law conference with They explored updates in the case law, practice tips as counsel on both sides to a file, ethics, and the importance of fostering respectful workplaces. A huge thank you to everyone who attended the session and contributed to the conversation, and the course chairs, Valerie Dixon and James Kondopulos, and program lawyer Genevieve Chang for putting on another fantastic employment law conference.

Meet the Team!

Tanvir joined our team in 2021. As a sixth-year call to the bar, Tanvir has gained considerable experience, exceeding her years in the field.

Martin Sheard has advocated at the Supreme Court of Canada on behalf of financially marginalized Canadians. Only about once every two years does the Supreme Court of Canada hear an employment law case, so this was a special moment for Martin.

Inlet Employment Law was a proud sponsor of FACL BC’s 11th Annual Gala, which took place on November 18th.

This year’s gala theme was ‘belonging’ - something so simple, but so powerful. Many lawyers are acutely aware of the ways in which they do (and don’t) belong to different circles, not only in terms of cultures or demographics, but within the legal profession itself. Getting called to the bar is often not the last barrier one faces in this line of work.

We know how ostracizing and unwelcoming the legal system can be - from jargon to court procedure to the portraits hanging up on the halls of the courthouse itself - it is easy to take away the message that one does not belong. For those reasons and more, we applaud FACL BC’s diligent and thoughtful efforts in cultivating a community and ensuring that lawyers of Asian heritage feel supported and included in the larger legal community.

It’s official! Today, Nazanin Panah is a practising lawyer in BC.

For the past year, Naz has dedicated her articling practice to assisting clients with a wide range of claims, from workplace disputes, contract reviews as well as sexual misconduct (both in and out of the workplace). Naz is a passionate advocate, always taking a trauma-informed approach while providing her clients with a safe space to discuss their claims.

In her first year, Naz has taken a lead role representing clients in over a dozen court proceedings both at the Provincial Court, Supreme Court of British Columbia as well as the Human Rights Tribunal,, with great success.

The team at Inlet are so excited to welcome Naz in her new capacity and we are confident she will be a great addition to the legal profession.

It’s a big week for our associates, Tanvir Sanghera and Navpreet Chhina as they will be co-presenting at the CLE Employment Law conference. Their paper titled "Behind Closed (Office) Doors: A Vicarious Liability Update" co-written by Christopher Drinovz and Jesse Dunning will cover vicarious liability generally in the employment context but more specifically Tanvir and Navpreet will be discussing sexual assault claims against employers based on vicarious liability for actions of employees including the trend of increased damage awards, unsuccessful defenses, and taking a trauma-informed approach to file managment. This is a very sensitive yet important topic and it is our goal to shed more light on this issue and to bring it to this public forum.

Today is Day and, despite the controversies, this year the focus is encouraging more listening, talking and being there for one another. This message resonates deeply with the team at Inlet Law and it is our view that mental health should always be at the forefront of conversations, especially now as many people are still experiencing isolation from their friends, family and peers.

Consider taking a moment to reach out to a friend, co-worker or family member today, as we believe every effort is meaningful and important to continue the conversation while bringing awareness for those struggling with mental health.
