The MT+Co. and NWNL teams are heartbroken in the wake of the tragedy that occurred at the Lapu Lapu Day celebration on Saturday night.

To our Filipino clients, colleagues, friends, and family we offer our deepest condolences in the wake of Saturday’s devastating events.

We are proud to live and work in such a culturally diverse area made richer by the Filipino community. All people should be able to celebrate their culture and traditions safely and without threat of violence.

While we take time to grieve and support those impacted, we encourage those able to donate money, services, and blood.

If your minor child will be travelling this Spring Break, it is important to be prepared with the appropriate documentation. A travel consent letter may be helpful if a child is travelling:
-alone
-with only one parent or guardian
-with relatives
-with a group (such as a school group or sports team)

A travel consent letter can be signed by each parent/guardian not accompanying the child and indicates their consent to the child’s travel plans. This can be useful in case airline officials or immigration authorities question the child’s travel arrangements.
However, it is important to also remember that countries may have their own entry and exit requirements for children and that a consent letter may not be sufficient for every country. It is recommended that you check the specific requirements of the jurisdiction the child will be travelling within.

Contesting a Will

Under B.C. law, you are required to make adequate provisions for your spouse and children (even adult children) in your Will. If any of them deem your Will unfair, they can apply to vary your Will after you pass away.

If your spouse or children make a Wills Variation Claim against your estate, this can:

1. Create or intensify bad feelings between your loved ones;
2. Significantly delay the distribution of your estate; and
3. Result in substantial legal fees for all parties.

You may have legitimate reasons for the division of your estate, even if your spouse or children consider it “unfair.” In such cases, it is important you speak with a legal professional to discuss strategies to reduce the risk of a Wills Variation Claim.

Angie provides comprehensive and cost-effective services in real estate, estate planning, and notarizations. Angie also offers a range of corporate services, such as drafting/reviewing shareholders’ agreements and the myriad other contracts that may be required in the day-to-day operation of a business.
