A big thank you for voting us Club of the Year! 🥹🌟

Lorsque nous avons fondé ce club il y a deux ans, nous voulions utiliser nos connaissances juridiques pour ameliorer notre communauté.

From the support of our peers we have been able to accomplish this vision. In two years, we have hosted four speaker series in an effort to create safe spaces for feminist legal dialogue. We have hosted a networking event connecting over 20 students to feminist lawyers across Montreal, and held a hearing event for Bill 21.

Le projet qui nous tient le plus à cœur est notre clinique juridique mobile, que nous avons eu le privilège d’élargir cette année. Cette clinique a offert une excellente occasion d’enseigner le droit, mais aussi d’apprendre des différentes expériences du droit.

Merci à tous ceux qui se sont joints à nous pour écouter et discuter de l’affaire English Montreal School Board c. Procureur général du Québec.

This landmark case, at its core, affects the agency and autonomy of women to decide what they choose to wear. Bill 21 crystallizes harmful stereotypes against Muslim women and girls, perpetuating their lack of safety in public spaces.

According to a study by LEAF in 2023,

50% of Muslim women reported an increase in the number of times they were asked about their faith in a job interview.

76% of Muslim women surveyed stated they felt discriminated and have experienced verbal harassment and exclusion in the workplace.

70.6% of respondents wearing a religious symbol believe their prospects for a job will be curtailed.

The Feminist Legal Collective strongly supports the ability for all women and gender-diverse people to participate in public institutions without being restricted by unjustified infringements of their Charter rights.

We are proud to hold this event to foster dialogue on campus on an issue so close to home. Seeing our peers show up day after day reminds us of the importance, and the strong interest, of our peers on matters involving inclusivity on campus.

Take a quick glimpse into our mobile legal clinic!

We have had the pleasure of partnering with incredible organizations like Chez Doris and Maison de l'amitié de Montréal to teach legal information, but to also learn about the law from the lived experiences of members of our community.

Nos séances d’information juridique sont bilingues et offrent des occasions d’échange tout au long de la discussion. Nous avons préparé des séances portant sur les interactions avec la police, le droit du logement, les droits linguistiques, ainsi que le droit de l’immigration et des réfugiés.

Before the International Women’s Day coffeehouse tomorrow, we are recapping our incredible Speaker Series event discussing the Hockey Canada case and restorative justice for survivors back in November!
