Quebec immigration has announced details of a new draw through the Arrima Expression of Interest system, issuing 1,136 Canada immigration invitations to apply.

The March 7 draw targeted two different groups of candidates, with March 4 listed as the date of extraction from the Arrima bank.

In the first group, candidates needed a French language speaking ability of level 7 or higher on the Quebec proficiency scale and to have scored at least 608 on the Quebec Expression of Interest points system.

Canada has conducted its first occupations-based Express Entry draw for the new year, issuing 3,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) under the Healthcare occupations category.

The February 14 draw saw a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 422 points – 9 points lower than the Healthcare occupations draw before that, which was conducted on October 26, 2023, and had a minimum CRS score of 431 points.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s record-breaking immigration to Canada has resulted in net quarterly migration soaring to more than 15 times the level it was when he first took office, the latest Statistics Canada figures reveal.

In the fourth quarter of 2015 when Trudeau was sworn into office, net international migration in Canada, the difference between the number of new immigrants to the country and those permanent and non-permanent residents who chose to leave, was 27,030 people.

By the third quarter of last year, the most recent period for which figures are available, net international migration was 413,579 people.

The February 1 draw saw a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 365 points.

The January 31 draw saw a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 541 points – two points lower than the all-program draw before that, which had been conducted on January 23, 2024.

The city of Montreal has witnessed a 5.3 per cent increase in its population over just a year thanks to the post-pandemic resumption of immigration.

These estimates have been proposed by the Institut de la statistique du Quebec (ISQ), which is the governmental statistics agency for the French-Canadian province.

The city – with a 100,000 boost in its population – grown more than any other major city or province, including its suburbs. The Quebec government’s population decree for 2024 put Montreal’s population at 1,895,211.
