SUBJECT: HOW TO CHOOSE A LAWYER TO REPRESENT YOU OR NOT.
1) Meet the lawyer “in person” (“tête-à-tête);
2) Tell the lawyer all the facts related to your case, even the ones that are not favorable to your case, you benefit from the “client-attorney” privilege, therefore all the information which you disclose will remain confidential;
3) Ask the lawyer what is the applicable law and case-law (jurisprudence) to your situation;
3) Tell the lawyer what is the goal (final outcome) that you wish to achieve and ask the lawyer what are your chances;
4) Ask the lawyer to qualify which ones of the facts of your situation are in “your favour” and which are “against you”;
5) Ask the lawyer what is the most probable and expected position of the adverse party;
6) Ask the lawyer to give you an assessment of how long the litigation will most probably last and what are the expected legal costs and professional fees;
7) With your personal knowledge, personal feeling (“gut feeling), try to filter and assess if the lawyer is genuine and franc in his opinion and advice;
Then, after all the above, MAKE YOUR DECISION to chose or not to chose the lawyer.
